That thread brings back so much memories.
I don't post much anymore but i'm still doing custom work. Don't think i will ever stop but i don't post here anymore.
I remeber the time when you could buy cheap sideshow figures and customize them. There was a great friendship going on in the custom section and i loved that. Now everything has become so expensive that doing custom costs a small fortune.

I just found this thread and I have been here since 2008. Good to see a post from elvis1976 as I used to follow his custom thread. I still own his custom Green Arrow which I picked up off of eBay in 2018.

So many familiar names in here, thanks for jogging my memory! I still collect and customize too. My first Sideshow figure was James Bond from Dr. No. My wife got it for me at Suncoast Video in Northpark Mall (Jackson, MS). It was the most expensive figure I owned at a whopping $50 lol. We're old.

Man, why am I still here
I was asking myself that a lot last year :lol
joined in ‘07. i lurk more than anything else because much of the discourse has become so negative.
Yup I agree with you there and it did dampen my experience with this place for awhile. But, there has been some turn around more recently particularly when the board got bought out to what it is now.

Just checked and I've been here since June of 2009. I wouldn't have guessed 15 years. Definitely less active than I used to be even though I collect just as much. Nice to still see some of the older names though!

i have been absent for the most part the past 6 years, about 2018.....i had burn out, went nuts from 2009-2017, 900+ figures, all the rainman, scott petersen, elvis1976, mr echo, entropy, skiman, on and on...buying all the custom outfits, heads, the custom paint jobs. now it's nuts, $1,500 for a head with paint and rooted hair? prices are crazy. anyway i am still selling bits and pieces of accessory stuff to this day. i had that much, bins and bins filled with clothing, hundreds and hundgreds of weapons, shoes, boots. no wonder i burned out, did over 200 customs myself....sold it all, only way to purge, leave nothing. still fun to come back and re-live the early OG years.....hope all of you are doing well.....

13 years!! From the ol 1/6 Universal Monsters Sideshow figures to the hi-tech Robosen Buzz Lightyear.. It's incredible how much this hobby has progressed.
The day I disappear from this forum will be the day I quit collecting.

Wow, I just noticed I jumped into the 10 year club last month. So much life has happened during that time, and despite some of the ups and downs the discourse can have here, SSF has been quite the respite from the real world at times. There's some good people here, and all things considered I still think it's by and far the best community regarding this hobby that's out there. Grateful for you all.

I actually joined April 2013 ... !! But had started skimming the forum in probably ... late 2011 or so?

Over 11 years. Wow. My involvement in the forum and hobby has fluctuated quite a bit but it's amazing to think how much has happened in my 'real life' since then.

2008 and counting. Usually unwinding during work breaks by admiring the various custom creations from all the talented artists on this board. Not much of a poster since I lack the creative skills.

this is even a better time to buy even cheaper sideshow figures and cheap upgrade parts.

have upgraded my sideshow star wars because they are worth few bucks stock. their outfits are generally still serviceable.

Hi all.

For those that know me, you may have noticed my lack of activity of the past few months.

Unfortunately, at the start of 2024, I received the devastating news that I have terminal stage 4 bowel cancer (age 36). It's been an awful year, however after 20 cycles of chemotherapy and a major colon resection (I now have a stoma), I'm still fighting. Given my diagnosis it's almost a miracle I'm still here now.

Anyway, cancer aside, I just wanted to reach out to you guys on here. Initially I was happy to just fade away and no longer post here - other things become priority. However, given the good times I've had here since 2010 and the good people I've connected with, I just wanted to let people know of my situation.

This forum was a key part of my mid-20s and early 30s. So many good times!

Hope you all have a good Christmas and New Year.

Andrew (greygoose).

I hope the same to you too mate! Im sorry you have to go through this and I know it’s much easier said than done but try your hardest to stay positive as much as possible my friend. A positive mindset is also a healthy way of living and does absolute wonders for your mind and body. I hope all your surgeries went well and get you back on the path of a speedy recovery!

Thanks mate.

I've been as positive as possible this year and it's got me this far.

Unfortunately there is no full recovery for me, it's all about how much time I have left.
