Thanks for making this thread QuiGonFishing (and to all the folks who have chimed in) :clap I've had this same question for awhile and I think I'll be waiting on the mkVII to rep my collection. Was going to go with the 46 but my very novice mind about IM figures was not ready for the eBay prices :lol

Good call. I think that's the best option for folks at this time with a small caveat.

For anyone that is trying to decide between the Mk 6 and 7, they should consider picking up the Mk 6 to avoid those ebay prices on it in the future.

Even if someone is trying waffling between the two, they could order the 6 now, sell it when the 7 comes out and most likely get their money back (or more).

After all, the 7 is still a hypothetical figure and even though I don't think Hot Toys would drop the ball on the final product, the 6 is already out, has been reviewed by people who have it in-hand, and has proven to be a phenomenal figure. One of the best 1:6 figures I've ever purchased, easily.

Funny, the 4 used to be THE iconic armor around here... people had a problem with the triangle reactor. Now they love it. :dunno

I've always liked the VI -- both for the unique triangle AND for its representation across two films and bridging IRON MAN (movie) to THE AVENGERS. It will always be iconic for just that alone.

I've always liked the VI just because it HAD the Triangle reactor. It also had the most screen time, and the One-off was the best in Iron Man 2.

Not trying to hijack this thread, I have the original non-diecast Hot Toys Iron Man mk VI and War Machine mk 1. Is it worth it to switch to the newer Mk. VI and Mk. 1 WM or am I happier being blissfully unaware on what I'm missing? :dunno
The new diecast Mk VI, is very nice but I feel it would make my other non-diecast Iron Man (Mk 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7) armors look like chumps.

It’s worth the upgrade. The newer diecast doesn’t stand out a ton in a static display with the older plastic...almost people would hardly notice a difference. But as a collector, the newer mk6 is light years better. It poses easier and more dynamically. The weapon options are far better. The new base is cool..depending on which version of the 6 you have that’s pretty much a wash, more about personal preference really. The interior lights are better on the new figure. The proportions are better. Again, when it’s separate suits(unique design) suits that are not 2 inches apart the differences are not massive so having them in the same display isn’t going to be an issue...but side by side mk6 to mk6 the difference is worth the upgrade. If that makes sense.

The new dcmk6 is the best iron man figure so far.

The Mark VI Diecast is pretty much perfect in my eyes..except for one thing.. that the arc reactor doesn't fill up the triangle. I still love it though. He's my only Iron Man armor.

If the rumors about Avengers 4 are true and time travel plays a part, then that would probably be a good excuse for HT to release a diecast Mk.VII (although really, anytime would be a good excuse).

Ideally, I would say upgrade them all if funds aren’t an issue.

I’ve had all the previous releases of those armors and they are definitely dated in comparison to the newer versions.

Not because they’re just newer or made with diecast parts (which I still say doesn’t contribute much other than to the price), but because Hot Toys did a phenomenal job on them. They’ve learned a lot from making so many Iron Man figures. The sculpting, engineering, painting, proportions - the new figures just have more presence.

If cost is an issue, I would recommend just picking your favorite suit (or suits) from that lineup and getting the new version of that. Keep all the figures you have as your HoA lineup and display the Diecast separately.

If that happens to be the VI and the War Machine Mk 1, then don’t hesitate in picking up the Diecast VI while you can now. Diecast WM Mk 1 is going to be harder. The price on that has skyrocketed and it’s going to hurt to get that now.

Even if you don’t get the newer figures, there’s nothing wrong with the older ones (other than the known issues). The older Mk 6 was my first Hot Toys figure and I still remember it fondly. The original WM Mk 1 still remains a great figure all around. Are the new ones better? Sure. But that doesn’t necessarily make the previous versions worse.

Thank you for your 2 cents, now I'm trying to narrow it down to an improved Mark 6 or owning a new armor like the Mark 45 lol.

Those are my two favorite armors. If you just want a different look, then the 45 is the way to go. If you want the best figure m, the 6.

There’s no guarantee that the 7 will be as well done as the 6. It should be but you never know. It is guaranteed to cost at least $50 more.

I would all but guarantee that this is going to happen. They're planning to die-cast up all the armors - it's just convenient that the timing lines up with it likely appearing again.

1. Most expensive: Mark 50
2. Cheapest Diecast: Mark III, 42
3. Most expensive aftermarket: Mark III Gun Metal, Mark 46, Mark 47
4. Most repaints: Mark 7
5. Best figures: 7 diecast, 46 or 47

My recommendation: Mark 7 diecast or Mark 4 for that classic look. But since you are getting one, I would go for a quarter scale as a center piece like the new Mark III or the Mark 43.

I know people like to hold on for the "definitive" version and will wait a year or two, but the 7 diecast hasn't even been announced (yeah it's a pretty forgone conclusion considering how many repaints it's had, and HT have even done the 2 and 5 diecast) … It is hard recommending someone buy a figure which could still well never see the light of day. It could be 2020 before (IF) it comes out..

Oh, and as much as I'm glad I have the d/c 3, nobody here is going to recommend it... :lol , At least it was more affordable at release than the upcoming 50

Trust me, they will do the 7 in diecast. It’s one of the most beloved armors, one of HT’s most repainted figures, and one of the only original 7 that hasn’t been done in diecast.
