Yeah all Medicom figures aren't priced at $140.00, the Marvel ones are almost always under the $100.00 mark. In fact they're are some real bargains to be had on Ebay if you're a Marvel fan.

I think the SW ones are so much more expensive because they are armoured and because LFL charges more for the use of the license than Marvel and the others do.

I really hope there's nothing in their licensing agreement that prevents Medicom from releasing certain characters as while I'm enjoying their armored troops immensely I would still like 1/6 versions of all the main OT characters with nicely tailored attire, great poseability and body proportions that don't make the figure look like some kind of mutated survivor of a nuclear war. Not all Medicom's figures are perfect by any means but the quality is a hell of a lot more consistent than SSC and I'm another that prefers quality over quantity.

You're right, Spidey isn't worth $140...he's worth $100, or do like I do and get him fro $85 from retailers:D

I got mine for $115 and that was way after he was released too.

When SSC had comic Spidey and the other first series of Marvel figures weren't they available for preorder at $99.99?

I think so. I got my comic Spidey in Jan and it was $120, which seems to be about average now, it seems to building hype. It's a tight figure, assuming your's joints don't break, I've been lucky with mine, but I'm super careful with ALL my toys.

Okay, why does someone always have to attack the "opposition" in these threads? And, I put opposition in quotes because it doesn't matter what we are talking about ... plastic Fett, Medi vs. SSC, paper vs. plastic, et. al. into an infinity of BS. This thread is about the merits of Medicom figures - i.e. which SW characters we want to be made, then about which figures Medi can make, and lately about the cost vs. value of said figures. Why the HELL do people have to keep turning the discussion into a competition? Is that just part of our human nature?
It may be a television show, but the Cylons have it right, "all mankind does is destroy." Ewww, I went all cryptic and sullen ... I guess I shouldn't have watched the last 4 episodes of BSG at once this morning :D--->:monkey3

I think BCM hasn't be very pleased with the quality of SSC's stuff compared to Medicom, a viewpoint I share with regards to their SW 1/6 line, he's just very passionate in his beliefs.

I doubt he meant it as a personal attack on anyone, he's just giving his opinion.

My G/F has bought the BSG mini series and Season One although we haven't got around to watching it yet.

Take it you'd recommend it?:D

Oh, I completely understand that some people dislike Sideshow's figures. I can live with that. In fact, I have had some problems with them too. However, why not start a new thread to voice that anger? This thread was meant to be focused on Medicom SW plain and simple. I have stayed out of these threads before, because I didn't own any Medi figures. Is this how these threads tend to run? Well, I own Yoda and Vader with Fett on prepurchase. I don't plan to go all hardcore - can't really afford to with my other collecting interest. However, I still feel at least "Medi" enough to discuss this stuff. However, if every conversation is going to get defensive, why bother? Lets focus on the topic and Medicom.

P.S. Yes, I would whole-heartedly recommend Battlestar Galactica. The 3rd season dragged in the middle. However, the season finale was great. I want to wait to see how that cliffhanger ends .. but it looks like next season could be its best.

I think it's a two part problem. At one point a Medi thread would be made and some of the people that loved Sideshow's figures more would come in causing trouble. So the Medi guys would get defensive and that's where arguements started.

Then sometimes the reverse would happen in an SSC thread, it's been turned into a bit tit for tat. Both sides are probably equally to blame for that and I've been drawn in myself a few times, although I'm trying not to be now cos I can't be bothered with it.

BCM's posts are usually constructive though, he just doesn't mince his words and says what he feels about something.

I like both companies products. Medicom's Luke isn't that great likeness wise but it happens. However, I've been pleased with the two I own. They make some dang nice stuff. Do I like their stuff more than SS? No, I don't I'm honest enough to admit that. I do feel though because I like both and am happy with both I am making out like a bandit.

So I say Cheers to SS and Medicom!!! :duff

Dead on man! Besides, we can be passionate, right? We all just get carried away sometimes, I'm guilty, but who here can say they're not?:emperor :chew

I'm totally guilty. As a matter of fact I can be a real ******* about it at times and go a tad overboard. I do though in the end respect where each person is coming from. :) :duff

I just recently acquired my first Medi (Stormtrooper) and a Darth Vader ROTJ is on the way... I think they're phenomenal-- and with the pics of Jango I can only see their work going up. Having said that, I'm still and always will be a huge fan of the SS product. I think it's healthy to like both and as far as collecting we're living in a great time when so many companies are offering etraordinary products at relatively (depending on the object) good prices.

Nothing to complain about--- as for the question at hand, I would love for Medicom to release a figure with an authentic likeness to either Bespin Luke or ANH Han...

Here's the deal when it comes to Lucasfilm and the licenses...

Ultimately, Lucasfilm does wield the power. A licensee cannot release a production item unless LFL blesses it. This goes beyond just sculpts and likenesses. The product itself has to be officially Approved before it can be mass produced or sold to consumers.

Now, could LFL be dictating to Medicom that they can only produce armored characters? I highly doubt that. For starters, it would probably be contradictory to the terms of the license contract itself, which almost surely covers all characters from the films (and more, which the Shadow Trooper shows).

That said, LFL could certainly suggest to Medicom that they go the armored route since there is obviously a need in the market due to the fact that no one else (even SSC) is producing those types of 12" SW figures right now. And I suppose if LFL really wanted Medicom to only do troopers and other armored figures all they would have to do is keep denying any other prototypes that Medicom presents to them. And I doubt that would happen unless it's a figure that SSC is also releasing around the same time. I think Luke Jedi was an anomaly in that way.

So, is Lucasfilm "forcing" Medicom to only make armored SW figures? Almost certainly no... but they do have all the power and the final say in what does (and does not) see release.

As jabbatheridge says I don't mince my words and I'll be the first to admit I go a bit over the top on occasion but it's just my way of voicing my frustration with a line that IMO could be so much better. As some SSC staff visit this site, maybe they'll take some of the more constructive criticism from myself and other members on board and make some much needed improvements to the 1/6 figures which would be great, because despite hugely disliking the majority of them at present I would have no hesitation about getting back into them were the quality to improve to Medicom or Hot Toys levels. Medicom clearly listened to the flak they got for Jedi Luke's sculpt and have stepped up their game, and I think that instead of giving people excuses about the lack of certain items SSC should really do the same ASAP because if Medicom ARE allowed to produce the likes of Han Solo,Obi-Wan,Princess Leia etc along with their armored figures there's every chance that SSC's biggest cash cow could end up as dead as some of their other licenses as not everyone will want to wait.

Thats exactly what i was getting at. thanks for clearing it up. Of course LFL can deny approval of anything they want, but it wouldnt be the smartest move since they could care less if one company makes only armored characters and the other non-armored. all they care about is their reputation and green bills.

Medicom is into kicking out variants... Luke is the only character that hasn't been "repackaged" (he was around before Medicom and SST hooked up I believe). In keeping with this, I am guessing that we will see variations of the clones... so many possibilities and minimal effort on Medicom's part.
