SW is by far my favorite but I actually prefer POTC over LOTR. They may not have been better movies but they were more fun to watch.

I'll always think of LOTR primarily as a book, which I've read 3-4 times so far and will continue to do so over the period of my life. I absolutely love it and while the movies are great, they'll always just be gravy to me.

So if we're talking movies strictly, then Star Wars, definitely. If we're talking about the SW movie trilogy vs the LOTR book "trilogy", then I'd have to really think about it, but I'd probably still pick SW as I think it means a little bit more to me, having grown up with it and all that.

True enough, but the original trilogy wasn't a cash grab either - SW just became that way.

I love both alot but LOTR would have to edge it for me and i would say purely on depth of story and characters. There is a bit more to LOTR than that of SW
