WOW. I gotta believe you're in the minority on that one.(might be fun to do that poll sometime)

To me it's because Frodo, the main character, fails and does not redeem himself for his failure. Sam is the hero, while Frodo goes off to never never land.

Vader becomes selfish and gives in to save a loved one, but in the end he does redeem himself.

Redemption is not always the mark of success of a life. Frodo is a tragic figure. "Never never land" ("Undying Lands" ONLY for those who are already immortal) might have been peaceful and helped restore his health for a bit, but at the cost of having to leave Hobbiton and everything he knew. He he does not get to enjoy the fruits of his labor....he gets to see and helps create the better world but he cannot partake of it. And even though he knew in his heart that he would never really survive this effort (whether in Mount Doom or because of his injury at Weathertop), he didn't give up...the bigger good being his driving force. He "failed" only in not being able to destroy the ring; by then, after a year of carrying it close, it was nearly impossible to shake off the power of the ring in its determination and survival programming. If beings as powerful as Gandalf and Galadriel feared it and Saruman succumbing to it, why could not a hobbit with no power beyond his own goodness not be allowed to falter?

Star Wars all the way :rock :rock :rock :rock :rock The greatest of all time!

LOTR is good but they are a bit overrated, imo. There are parts in those movies that are more gay then High School Musical and P!tu put together :lecture :D

I would still give the PT edge over LOTR. ROTS kicked much ass.

Now that I would disagree on. I would definitely prefer to watch the LOTR Trilogy over TPM, ATOC and ROTS; and I think the LOTR series is much better than the PT.

But, OT still rules them all :rock

Like with Bilbo its Frodo's mercy on Gollum that brought him redemption. Frodo wasn't meant to destroy the ring. That was Gollum's part to play.

Glad you said this. I meant to say something along that line as well, but my post was already too long. :frodo

Whats Lord of the rings, never heard of it...........................j/k

STAR WARS gets my vote

Gotta be SW (OT). Without those, half the filmmakers we like today (including PJ) would likely have never even gotten into the business.
