Bottom line to this discussion... Republicans didn't do any better Mesa. 8 years, things only got worse. Bottom line.

Even at the end of the Bush term... what did they do? Toss money at it. :lol

It must be really hard to walk around on planet Earth when you are so blind.

You are absolutely 100% correct Josh. The Republicans that were in charge failed this country miserably 6 of the past 8 years. Congress has since been run by the democrats the past two years. Mix in a spend-happy president and a willing congress and we have the disaster. I'm so disgusted with government over the past 4 years.

And I'm not at all blind Josh, I'm well aware of what got us into this mess, I keep up on it a regular basis. I'm just not so willing to put blind faith in our leader when I can't grasp how this approach is going to help us in the long run.

spend money <> save money

I understand that you are scared man, this mess scares us all. But give them time, stay on top of it... but give them a damn chance to do something about it.

It's going to take a lot of work from both sides, and money will have to be spent to make things happen. The Great Depression was helped along by financial advisors in Washington that let the market go, and didn't put any money back in... And we all know how that ended up. I'm willing to give them a shot of trying an alternate approach at the moment...

Then I need to get some because I will not miss that history-making hour of television. :lol

I gotta get in on that chuck ep. kids have 3d glasses in their room. hope they work!/ side note Chpt- school stuff really important I agree but the education on sex should begin at home and not be up to the school system to teach our kids. Maybe thats the problem to begin with.

It's too bad we can't go to a barter and trade system. someone mentioned that a few hundred pages ago. :lol get rid of the old paper dollar.

I agree 100%. The more education the better. I don't necessarily care where it comes from as long as it's effective and factual. And you bring up a very good point that if possibly more of this education (with emphasis of importance) began at home, maybe less money would have to be devoted to that particular issue in the current stimulus plan. Thus, spending it elsewhere in an effort to further.........stimulate the economy. Thus, getting back to my point to begin with. If the money is invested now, we will see greater payoff in the future.

"both sides"

Did you hear or read how it went down today/yesterday? Personally and honestly, I like the idea of both democrats and republicans in congress. We get ideas from both sides, and hopefully what happens is that the men/women in charge pick the best ideas from both sides and make compromises and come up with the best bill/law for the American people.

That is not at all what occurred today. The president made an attempt to cross party lines, came to the GOP side and asked what they wanted in order to get the bill passes, GOP offered their ideas which were also focused on job growth but less spending. When those recommendations were taken to the democratic congress, they were completely ignored. Little to zero of them were included in the final version of the bill, which is why this vote was completely split down the middle. It's not good for our country to lean so far left, which typically means spending and tax increases. I was thinking a shift to left would possibly be a good thing after the miserable leadership presented by the republicans, but we're talking about nationalizing our banks, our auto industry, unionizing even more social programs, and having complete government control over too many programs and businesses. What I see happening now is even more dependency on the government. Socialized wellfare, healthcare, schools, government jobs, banks, automobile industry.

This scalpel that the prez mentioned during the campaign where he was going to cut out the programs that didn't work, seems to me like he just added 30% of $850,000,000,000 more worth of programs that may eventually need to be looked at eventually some point in time.

Mesa please give it a rest before your incessant political ramblings have yet another thread locked.
Thanks

I completely agree with Mesa, he is well informed and seeks out the truth with detailed information.

Sleep! Sleep! The Republicans run nothing..the Democrats run nothing..both are the same..the real men behind the curtain are running the show..lets print money out of thin air to bailout the world..devalue the dollar even further into its complete destruction (end)

Right...

Anyway, I'm of the opinion that it's a little early to be getting up in arms about Obama's attempts to fix the problems that years of deregulation have caused. Nobody likes these bailouts, but if I had to choose between them and the complete collapse of the economy, I'll choose a bailout.

The recession didn't affect me directly until a month or two ago, but now my business has really taken a hit. So much so that I'm looking at a huge drop in my yearly income if it continues.

I would like to think that any and all of us are well informed in these difficult times and aware of what is happening at the moment, especially how it is going to/affecting us personally.

For me, I hate the exchange rate, it is killing me right now and i've had to cancel a quite a few SS items because buying in $$ is just too expensive. I'm currently buying one item from a fellow freak and that will probably be my last US purchase for a while.:sick

I've been living on Disability Benefits for a long time now so am used to struggling and depending on said benefits to live. So I'm sorta used to saving up to pay bills or to get that item I really want but even that is becoming too diffiult to pay all.
Somethings gotta give and collecting is a luxury for me, not a necessity.

It's really funny how all my posts are political ramblings. Shell, go back and reread them please. I kept them all on point and topic relating to the economy and how the new leadership is handling it. No where did I insult any member here. All while I'm getting jabbed at for having my views.

Eff it, delete my posts them, give me an infraction, do whatever, I'm not going to apologize for having an opinion and civilly explaining it on the thread topic.

Gonna have to disagree with your analysis here. There were considerable concessions made (the massive tax cuts added in? the contraceptives funding?), how many concessions would he have to add in to get so much as a single vote? One party is willing to compromise, one isn't, and will vote party line every time while pandering to an ever-shrinking base.

Not that I'm familiar with previous economic/political threads, but if it gets threads locked here, I'll cut it off at that! I will say this though, as a newer collector who hasn't had his income but down too much, it's a pretty sweet time to get deals on statues!

I don't think you are wrong for professing your opinion bro, but in ALL of your posts you consistently talk about "lefties" and rip apart Dems. I understand that your political leanings are far right, but even you can see that is the case.

And as for what happened the past few days, Obama at least made an attempt to try and appease both sides. He even removed part of the bill because he felt it wasn't the right time and to please the other side. He didn't have to do that, especially with majority control. But he did.

As somebody has already stated, nobody wants a stimulus bill unless there is no other choice. And division on where that money should go is understandable... Each side has their own opinion about where it is needed and what will stimulate growth, and no matter what happens... one side will feel like they have no say in the end. It's unavoidable.

We NEED government regulation for the time being. Since Reagan started deregulating... the seeds of this crisis were planted. Regulation is definitely needed right now, and probably in some way forever. It doesn't mean that the country is doomed. And seriously man... it is still early. Give the process time before you scream that the US is becoming Nazi Germany. :lol

Obama made a bunch of changes to appease the Republicans, such as removing the Abortion funding from the stimilus package.
