Why have all the PFs depreciated so significantly?

I haven't posted in this thread because I may not be considered qualified in one minor way...I do not personally own any PF scale figures.

I admit, I don't know what it's like to own them. I have had a few 18" and larger figures from other companies that I ended up storing, and they are not as nice as these SS ones seem to be...but my opinion about them regardless is this, they are way too large for my tastes. I dislike the scale. And, I do not have the display space for more than a few, which keeps me from investing in them.
However, this does not address the quality issues at all, nor the price.

Ergo, my answer to the thread title question is this, they are too large and simply cost more than the average collector is willing to spend. I bet.

Now, I return this thread back to those to whom it most applies...the owners of PF scale figures. Good luck there. I hope they are not phased out in any way due to lack of sales or interest. They do look super!

(If I ever got one, it would probably be the Darth Vader, as he is my all time favorite movie character...)

What do the Kurganites think?

If Sideshow gave you the choice of only one, would you want a 12" Medieval Kurgan, or a 1/4 scale Medieval Kurgan PF?

I will only collect SW PFs. Although, I was this close to pulling the trigger on gray Hulk.

I'd probably actually get both - but my first choice would be for a 12" to fit in with the rest of the line. After all - its the fact that the line is missing Ramirez and Kurgan that stops it from being "complete" - at least from a Highlander The Movie perspective.

I don't collect PF's but I would consider this one.

Still a stack of Highlander the Series figures that could be made but I suspect given the sales of Highlander figures to date that its not likely.

If I could only have one it would a PF...without a single doubt in my mind.Peroid.Case closed.

But I would buy them both if offered in both formats!!!

Me too.... A PF would be awesome! And it WOULD sell out... guaranteed. The armor work coupled with an iconic pose would generate enough buzz to fill the orders....

If SSC does some of my favorite Rock Legends, I will jump to order them.
I would seriously trade in every PF I own for a PF SSE Rat Pack set.

One thing to keep in mind is that most lines of new millenium era high end Star Wars collectibles don't immediately become must haves from a wide audience. Typically when the lines build up and have a run of several in a series, as well as get some media buzz, then they suddenly become popular and skyrocket, especially the earlier releases in the line.

Take a look at the GG mini busts. They weren't overly popular in the beginning. Most retailers sat on the Clone Wars maquettes for quite a while and then suddenly everyone had to have them (before the Leia, Boba and Vader were announced). The first Master Replicas blasters and sabers sold OK at first, but later on suddenly got insanely overpriced on the aftermarket. Most recently, the Clone Wars character keys show this pattern. Even the Unleashed figures from Hasbro started slow, then got way overvalued on the aftermarket. Of course, Hasbro f'ed that line up with overdistributing some of the figures and underdistributing others, then cancelling the 7" line altogether.

My guess is that the popularity of the SW PFs will greatly increase when Boba Fett is released as well as the combination of Celebration 4 and Comic Con next year. With C4 being in LA, and that being the first glimpse of the Star Wars TV shows, it's going to be big. You gotta remember that most of the PF figures had been released well after the ROTS media buzz and therefore went under the radar of even many avid collectors.

People like myself are now seeing and hearing about Vader, Obi-Wan, Grievous and slowly getting hooked. Boba Fett will really reel them in.

Of course I could be wrong, but there have been some patterns to support my idea.

P.S. With that being said; I hope they don't eventually appreciate out of control and then get nuts with tons of new releases. Healthy growth at a steady pace is good. But a release schedule of more than one per quarter would prevent me from following the entire line. I'm already strapped as is, but I have a renewed interest in my Star Wars collection thanks to the PF line and some releases by other companies. My interest may be more intense now than it was just before TPM.

I know what you mean. The current going rate for Luke and Han is very alluring, only I'm still trying to recover from Vader, Obi-Wan, Grievous Ex. and Leia Ex. Plus I'm trying to scrape together the funds for Dagobah Luke Ex. and some other 4th quarter items.
At least I got Vader and Ben for a decent price.
I would really like another Vader, but just to keep under my pillow at night.

GG mini busts also started out with no arms, and I think that hurt their popularity at first, plus they came out just as SW was recovering from TPM and getting back some steam with AOTC. I know I didn't start caring until about the time arms were added. The busts just looked off without.

For me it was the opposite but with with Buffy busts. I collected them when they where just that, busts and not 1/2 a statue.

Has anyone thought about the fact that maybe they were priced too high to begin with?

The 1/4 scale simply doesn't work in some areas: southern california, florida, new york, london, and wherever it costs $$$ per square foot. I live in a 1600 sq foot (not including yard) house in OC...at 700k, that's 468.75 per square foot (!). They simply take too much room. Imagine if you live in San Francisco...unless you want to display them in your closet in their shipping boxes, not sure how that's going to work.

Now I've toyed with the idea of putting in a glass floor and displaying them under me, but it glass tiles are expensive. I've tried mounting them on my ceiling but my neck cramps after awhile. The only place left right now is above my toilet...but I'm too afraid they'll fall in by accident during an earthquake =/
