Why is there such elitism in "Collectibles Forums"

"Context of the forum" is that people criticize each other all the time, does that mean I should laugh out loud at this thread. Also, I don't really agree about that being the nature of the forum. Most threads only sometimes show pictures of scantily clad women presented as objects.

As for exploding heads, everyone knows that in the U.S., we don't mind gratuitous violence, but show us a butt cheek or nipple on your TV show and we'll have you arrested.

Oh, I've seen it happen at times here. And, like alot of people have stated this happens in all walks of life. And so unless the person making the remark actually knows me.....it means nothing. If you let every derogatory comment someone makes get to you...you'd never be happy.

Because there is this shield of the internet that is why some ppl feel no compunction about being mean. But, in real life if someone makes a derogatory comment for me to hear about me personally, I damn well let them know it's not cool. Unfortunately I work at a law firm and know all too well the ramifications of some of my past actions.

maybe it's my background, my father was a police officer, went to catholic school all my life, strict disciplinary household. So respect goes a long way regardless of which side of the fence you are on. you can disagree, but at the end of the day still be friends and respect the other's opinion.

Yep, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and should not be criticized by it.

that's why I said context of this forum, not just this thread, encompasses the world of movie, comics, video games, all of which objectify women and the beauty of them. So to not encounter it in here or to be offended by it would strike me as odd considering the culture this forum caters to.

What if I told you I was offended by your objectification of women in your avatar, and that it makes me uncomfortable to see it? What if I thought that it demonstrates a complete lack of respect for: a) women; and b) me, who is offended by pictures of scantily clad women? Would you remove it? We have always had complaints of elitism on these boards - but try to talk about 1/6 at some other forums and see where it gets you. Or try to talk about statues on some other other boards and see what happens. We have the worst of both worlds - the _______s have to congregate somewhere.

But seriously - learn how to use the muli-quote!

No really - if anyone is out of line in their insults or knocking other people's inferior tastes - let a mod know so we can laugh at you.

Collecting is a personal thing. Being critical of someone's choices becomes a personal attack, intentional or not. Your choices for collectibles depends on a discerning eye. If you're not an elitist you should be on some other board. This is Sideshow Freaks >>>> the rest. Don't forget it.

Ya gotta admit there are a bunch of strong personalities on here who more than likely didn't start that way until they were comfortable. And some tend to forget where they started from and how it was for them, being brusque and dismissive with some post can be kinda off putting. Unfortunately it all comes back to It is what it Is. I still love collecting and love chatting with other freaks out there.

If I critisise a collectible, I'm not attacking the collector. We all like different things. I think Mighty Muggs look like novelty butt plugs, but lots of people love them, I don't think I am better than those weirdos.
