Will Sideshow's Marvel line eventually decline???

It will take a long time to see a decline. IMHO I agree with IM SSC has too much of a monopoly (not that im worried, their stuff is great) competition would be a really good thing. :)

What a bullcrap. Even if Marvel movies will never be made it will never decline. So many characters are not made yet, so much storylines, new characters being created etcetera. Marvel will keep going strong in every possible way.

Competition is a good thing I agree and they have Bowen to generate that. However, as licensing things go usually if one company get a license its hard for someone else to get it in that same scale I believe.

If I'm not mistaken Koto & Bowen make the same scaled statues and that seem to be working up until this point. So, like I was saying we just need another suitable statue company to garner this particular license and we'll start to see better product output from Sideshow.

I believe Marvel statue collecting will go on but Sideshow will decline. Just wait for Enterbay or Hot Toys to start making the statue, reasonable price and pure quality. Sideshow keeps jacking up their price and their quality is getting worst. When I start collecting, all the SS's exclusives are very hard to get. Look at them now, they have so many exclusives sitting in their stock. Love SS but.....

Have you seen the prices of Hot Toys? The figure are almost statue prices! Imagine if they did 1:4 scale how much the statues will cost? They would be the most expensive statues ever made. Your logic of SSC on a decline is not valid. They are still the best when it comes for value for dollar wise. :lecture

Here is the deal. The film industry's love affair with the comic book will wane, probably within the next decade or so but fully expect to get a ton of it shoved down your throat between now and then realistically Spider-Man in 2000 was the kick off for the new comic book film era considered by most analysts and looking at what we've gotten since then we've hit a good chunks of the Marvel hero A-List but barely scratched the surface at DC or even the independents.

As for Sideshow the only effect that the film industry will have will be on the film themed pieces. Other than that this line has amazing legs. They've barely scratched the surface on the main characters considering the decades of variations with the big ticket characters.

Here a list of all the Marvel Studio motion pictures that we have seen made since 1998...

1998: Blade

2000: X-Men, Blade II

2002: Spider-Man, Daredevil

2003: X2, Hulk, The Punisher

2004: Spider-Man 2, Blade: Trinity, Elektra

2005: Fantastic Four

2006 X-Men: The Last Stand, Ghost Rider

2007: Spider-Man 3, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer,

2008: Punisher: War Zone, Ironman, Incredible Hulk

2009: X-Men Origins: Wolverine

2010: Iron Man 2

Upcoming/ In production

2011 X-Men: First Class (filming), Thor

Plus its a few more major motion Marvel Studio picture. Just like the comic books, the big screen and all the new CGC makes this an endless cash cow.

You forgot Captain America, The Avengers, and Iron Man 3. Although the latter is a bit further away and maybe not far enough along to be counted.

Don't forget the Deadpool movie...:hi5:

I didn't forget, but like you have stated they are to far down the line right now.

Cap comes out this summer and even though Avengers is next year, its already got a cast, a director, a script, and too much leading up to it to not be done.

I didn't know they were doing a Deadpool movie. Is it gonna be continuation from Wolverine: Origins?

Yeah you are right about the Cap movie, and the Avenger movie should be coming out around 2012. The Deadpool movie (to the best of my knowledge) is going spin off of the X-Men Origin movie.

Koto makes kits though not statues and I'm not sure their stuff or Bowens for the most part is in the same scale as most of SS stuff.

I have a few Koto statues/mini bust and I never had to put them together or paint them. So yes, Bowen and Koto statues are pretty much of the same scale.

In the end they (Koto) offer a different choice as well as compete with Bowen which keeps Bowen from become fat off it past glory. With Sideshow we have no other alternative to turn other than custom unlicense 1/4 scaled pieces.

They are called prepainted kits though. I've never had to paint anything from Koto I've received either. Guess I don't recall seeing any pieces from either that match SS scale wise.

The line will eventually decline, but as long as Sideshow is in business they will hold the Marvel line. I have a feeling that Sideshow would let go all of its other licenses go before stopping Marvel's cash cow. The best thing about Marvel is that Sideshow has SUCH a huge list of characters to pull from and there is so much potential for great statues. I just think Sideshow needs to reflect on the direction of the Marvel line and go back to their base.

Here are some of my personal ideas that would help strengthen the line:
  1. Scale Consistency- If comiquettes are going to be 1/5th, make them all 1/5th so I know to pass on all of them.
  2. Quality Control- I am hesitant to preorder items with the NRD; no more bad paint apps, lazy eye, dark tan skin, and for goodness sake produce an Ironman w/out major issues. I have only had one major QC issue, but when talking about $500 statues we shouldn't have to worry at all.
  3. Take 'fan feedback'- Bowen, PopCulture, and Hot Toys all show work in progress clips and then get feedback to improve the items
  4. Dios- go "back to basics" with the epic battles that got the line started. One idea that I would love to see would be a dio set such as multiple X-Men dios that connect to make a scene vs. Apocalypse, Magneto, or Sinister (I have a feeling the dio line will be 'on hold' soon)
  5. LSB/1:1 Busts- no complaints other than Venom's goofy eyes

Eventually yes when mainstream loses interest in superhero movies. This will happen Im sure but only for a while then they will come back with some more reboots.

But you're talking about just the movies Marvel line, and this is more about Sideshow Marvel statues in general.

The thing about the scale issue is that do you want say a Hulk to be 1/5 and basically make it the same size as someone else? I don't think most folks do.

As with any company finding ways to improve QC is the best route to go.

They do take fan feedback now and use it accordingly. Heck, most of the time I'm pretty sure they're making the changes even before the fans come up with something. As is the case with Bowen or Hot Toys (who has said they don't care for it when fans make comments).
