From the beginning this movie had all the potential of a fail. The trailers have me pumped. I don't care what people post...I'm gonna pay for a ticket on opening night. I'm fan enough of Jackman's Wolverine to give it an honest shot but I'd be lying if I didn't say that my expectations are really low.

then you'll like this movie. I was planning on seeing it in the theater because of the trailers. After actually seeing it I'm happy I did not pay for it. I know that sounds bad, but like a cheap meal it went in and out rather quick. It's an okay movie.

I guess we do live in a world where Paul Blart: Mall Cop can be a box office smash. There are no human beings in Wolverine. The problem with so many of these movies is they're just being made as empty spectacle. If you take out the costumes and CG you're left with nothing. Whereas the way it should work is you take out the costumes and CG and you're left with a compelling drama about fully developed characters.

But now it's all Attack of the Clones instead of Empire Strikes Back. I shouldn't be laughing at Wolverine in his own movie. I shouldn't be laughing at a Wolverine movie. I should be seeing a modern day Eastwood or McQueen blazing a cinematic fire across the summer, claws out.

I is a dummy! Bring on the empty spectacle! :rock

My life is waaaaaaay too boring and serious as it is. Give me some mindless fun once in a while.

Amen, sister! A little mindless fun never killed anyone, I think. Not that I remember anyway :angelsmil

I get both of your points....but when you make a series that isnt that mindless, and it slowly becomes mindless, there in lies the problem. X1 and X2 werent really mindless. X3 and Wolvorigins were. Hell, even brainless action movies need SOME character development. I love Wanted....Its dumb as hell, but its fun, and you do get a feel for Wesley....(I think anyways).

I just didnt like it at all. It really had no point to it. Nothing was resolved, nothing felt done....origin it may be, but you have to have a story, and a plot in there. And IMO Wolverine didnt have one.

It's not sir.

Also, if you want to see the secret Deadpool ending, you'll have to go to a bunch of theaters to find it.

There was 2 secret endings in the Workprint, and they both suck. One with Stryker, and one with Logan in a bar. So....

I mentioned in an earlier post I wish all movies had great story, character development etc. I realize that will not always the case especially with comic book movies. The movie accurately reflects the character, has a decent story, has decent acting and I can make it through the movie it is mindless fun (IMO).

We all have our own crap-o-meter. Make no mistake, crap is crap (Catwoman, Elecktra). My expectations for XMO is on par (my scale) with Hulk, Punisher (Jane) etc. They were entertaining and mindless fun. Not on par with BB, TDK, IM but I was ok with it.

It is disappointing watching X-men, Spiderman, Batman (Keaton) etc have solid attempts then quality drop off later in the series.

Either way, I will make my own judgement next week :banana

There doesnt have to be a GREAT story...but a story that has a purpose. Wanted's goal was to make wimpy Wesley into a badass....but then it became a revenge flick. So there was some goals.

Wolverine had a goal, but failed to finish that. And the thousands of cameo characters that had zero set up, or anything aside from a few lines....I dunno....it wasnt just mindless...it was just...bad. IMO.

The only thing that I don't like so far about this new movie is the fact that they felt like they had to include all of these cameos to begin with. In XMen, it was understandable... that is a team story.

But Wolverine doesn't need all of that, and in fact... a true Origins tale of Wolverine would have been miles better if it just included Wolverine himself, Stryker, and Sabretooth. It didn't need all of these crazy cameos and characters, no "special team".

In fact, what I was initially excited to see back when this film was announced was Wolverine alone... doing his thing. I was expecting Wolvie fighting those who created him, a loose cannon... lost without memory. Maybe Sabretooth being sent after him to rein him under control for Stryker to use, and with the early scenes of them together... it would be dramatic and cool.

They didn't need XI or the team to make that happen, and by including all of that.. they cheapen the film and take away precious minutes that could have been used for character development.

I will still see it, seeing as I love Hugh as Wolverine and am curious. I also want to see Liev as Sabretooth, from the trailers he looks to have nailed it. But the team nonsense and all the cameo crap has me a bit worried. I guess I will see in another week.

Wolverine comes off as one of the nicest men in the movie. He cares so much for everyone's feelings, and weather they live or die.

It's sickening.

I liked the cameos. I'm a Blob fan so it was fun to see him. Can't stand Gambit in the comics and he was actually kind of cool in the movie. Other than the Deadpool plot device they were fine with me.
And he's not that nice.
He goes to the firing squad to protect his murderous, apparently rapist brother.
When exactly is he so concerned for everyone's feelings?
Granted, I only watched it once. But I didn't see anything to warrant all the hate it's getting.

Pretty much when he doesnt kill those people in Africa. He shoulda diced them up. Didnt Stryker say he was an animal in X2?

Bad, bad like Catwoman or kinda bad like FF 2?

True, he never really is the beast they make him out to be. But that always happens with "mysterious background" heroes. They wimp out on the shady background because they don't want to alienate the audience. Happens in the comics as well. If I'm remembering correctly, Gambit was touted as quite a heartless badass and when his terrible memory was revealed he basically watched his pals kill mutants while saved a young Marrow. Not exactly worth all the brooding he'd been doing.

I would say it;s better than FF2 just because I can't stand the campy tone of those flicks but I could see someone comparing it to that. I would probably say it's better than that after one viewing of each.
I spared myself watching Catwoman. I put myself through enough dreck being a horror fan.

Wolverine is the campiest movie I've seen since FF2. It's a good comparison. And they both do that thing where the characters have the depth and motivation of the period at the end of this sentence.
