I just think that your definition is more of an interpretation than what you're calling the American camp.

Camp originates in the English theatrical tradition - it's only fair their "interpretation" takes precedence. But like I said, I don't have a problem with multiple definitions. I pretty much think Wolverine is camp however we cut it. :)

Wolverine is definitely camp in the classic tradition, like Showgirls.
Oooooh.....that is quite an accusation. Showgirls wasn't just campy but all in all bad with horrible actor portrayals and a storyline that was only a hint above a Cinemax After Dark original, took itself so serious that it was laughable and really really was trying to be cinematic art in the deep recesses of Joe Eszterhas' mind....I am at least hoping for some mindless popcorn fun not Citizen Kane but man please not Showgirls 2.0

Showgirls it isn't, not even close.

Put it this way, it's better than X3, how's that.

:lol I thought X3 was one of the biggest Marvel turds so that ain't saying much.

I have to be completely honest and admit this describes Wolverine for me. I really enjoyed Jackman in the first two X-Men movies but it was just painful watching him acting his heart out here to try to make the script work. I almost wanted to pay for a ticket because I felt so bad for him.

Almost.

That origin referred to homosexuality, or other perceived "flamboyant" behavior of the day. That would further the point that it's original meaning is intentional outrageousness.

True true, I can't argue with that. Many of the Marvel movies are turds...but i'll admit that I had some fun watching some of those doodies!

I only watched the unfinished working print of Wolv so I am looking forward to seeing it in its complete form.

I'll have to hand it to Fox, that "bootleg" sure was effective marketing!

There were people at my job who have no idea what an X-Men is and they were discussing the bootleg because it was all over the news!

Good job FOX!

Nope. That was actually a secondary evolved definition that became a stepping stone to the eventual American take that camp = deliberately OTT. This is an issue that people in the relevant fields get very particular about. :)

Classically:
The Sound of Music = camp
Rocky Horror Show = kitsch

Man on the Street:
Anything gay or OTT = camp

(For what it's worth, homosexuality = flamboyant is very modern and could only arise after you wouldn't get lynched for being gay. Camp originates before that. And they say we can't learn anything on a toy message board!)

I've never seen a reference before Ware and that is in relation to exaggerated behavior (he doesn't say flamboyant), most likely in reference to homosexuals. Before that I've no idea. Can you give me a point in the right direction?

Can you give me a point in the right direction?

You can see the transatlantic divide by comparing Christopher Isherwood and Susan Sontag's competing mid-century definitions. Obviously what has to happen is a SSF Camp section, where all avatars must be either Bea Arthur or RuPaul to appease both, er, camps. :)

Obviously I'll have to save that party for next Saturday night but I will check it out.
Dibs on Bea Arthur.

Back to Sam Raimi....^^^^ yes, Drag me to Hell looks epic....even if it's gonna be another PG-13 horror.....hopefully he's not making this a killing cut away movie.

Huh?

'Wolverine' Will Have Multiple Secret Endings?
You don’t need enhanced senses to smell the stink of desperation coming from 20th Century Fox’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, as the company’s recently announced hidden multiple secret endings on different prints, with theaters showing different versions. And not different post-credit "easter egg" endings, either - real, end-of-the-story endings.

If the suits at Fox were clever, they’d say that this "multiple endings" angle reflects the various, occasionally contradictory endings that the comic book Logan stumbled through over the years, and this was just Fox’s way of honoring a popular character in a unique way. If they were honest, they’d just come out and say "We’re ^^^^ing terrified that nobody’s going to bother throwing away anywhere from $20-$40 on what would probably be the cinematic version of second-rate Chinese food - relatively tasty, occasionally amusing, but highly forgettable - that we came up with this mildly ridiculous gimmick in an attempt to recover some of that opening box-office cash flow." Oh well, I suppose honesty and cleverness are too much to expect from Hollywood.

This, combined with recent news on Ain’t It Cool News about Emma Frost’s role in the movie, has just confirmed my fears about the "official" release of Wolverine. It’s a personal cinematic rule of thumb for me that the more endings a movie has, the crappier it’s gonna turn out; anybody remember Robert De Niro’s terrible Hide and Seek, with it’s five alternate endings? If a story could end any number of ways, it’s got too many loose ends.

Unfortunately, this has followed another trend I’ve noted about Wolverine - namely, that its pretty much been a 1:1 ratio of "things I hear bout Wolverine I like" v. "things I hear bout Wolverine that make me laugh out loud". I mean, did you hear about how the makers of the Wolverine game spent like a month dealing with Logan’s pants? Apparently, Logan’s clothes and skin get torn away during the course of the game, but while his skin grows back because of his healing factor, his clothes naturally don’t. The problem with that was, when they finished the graphics and the whole mess and played through a level, they realized that after maybe thirty seconds of gameplay Logan was running around in a ripped up tank top and a pair of jean daisy dukes, which is honestly pretty disturbing. So they ended up having to remove all the breakaway work they did on his pants…it’s a whole thing; the point is, the rollout for this movie’s been totally ^^^^ed from jump, and adding a bunch of different endings smacks of panic.

Don't know about anyone else but this movie sounds like it's going to ROCK! Heck, I love it already....bring it on!

15 different endings wouldn't be enough for me.....I want enough endings where it would make its own godamn movie....a 2 hour ending movie would kick ass! :chew

Ok.....everyone who's seen it (the final version) has gotten the Stryker ending, and the Logan in Japan ending. And there is supposed to be a DEADPOOL ending.....but NO ONE has seen it yet.

So....I call BS until someone confirms it. Because if I wanted to see this, and I had drive around town looking for the DP ending, and only getting the damn Stryker one, i'd be pissed as hell.

Yep.

And the two other endings are mega crap.

Stryker walks down a road under some hypnosis from Silver Fox, and these army guys walk up to him and ask "We need to ask you some questions about this dude that died...." End scene.

End 2 is Wolvie sitting at a bar in Japan, and the bartender lady asks if he's "Drinking for forget?"...and he says..."Drinking to remember..."

End scene.
