Just a quick question... Why were two Canadian immortals (James and Victor/Wolverine and Sabertooth) fighting in so many American conflicts for the U.S. army in the opening montage?
Would they be related to the people that keep telling me TDK is the perfect expression of Batman and that if I don't understand that I don't understand Batman? The ones that can't just enjoy their Batman movie without it being all things to all men?
Love those guys.
Nah....those are Fanboys who fell in love with Nolan. That a whole different thing. I loved TDK for a multitude of reasons but it definitely isn't the end all for Batman and I think most fans would agree. Although it would have been nice to get the Nolan treatment into the X-Universe (not him specficially just a director who wanted to make an actual movie not so much a predictable comic book film)
Good point but I just figured they fled to the states after Logan killed his real dad.
As did I... But doesn't Logan say, when he's playing the role of humble lumberjack (insert Monty Python song here), as Stryker approaches him that it's not his country as he's "Canadian"?... Or am I not remembering that properly?
Or it could just be really bad writing and filmmaking.
I think there's a lot of crossover in that fanboy community but, yeah, there is diversity there as well.
I think X2 is one of the best comic book movies ever made. Bryan Singer (aside from the VERY stupid decision to make Superman a deadbeat dad) has shown just as much respect for the characters he's used and found much more humanity in them than Nolan did IMO. I find nothing to relate to or care about in TDK- just big themes. It's an arguable point and probably comes down to personal preference but I think it's a mistake to ignore the great work Singer did.
Don't get me wrong, TDK is good but I actually enjoy and appreciate BB more. The main action scene in TDK for me wasn't that exciting or well executed.
I have a hard time sitting thru TDK again but not BB......Well, maybe hard is not the correct term I should be using, it's just a struggle getting thru it.
I 100% agree with you. I've watched BB several times but haven't been able to sit though TDK since the theater. I like Chris Nolan's work in general and I'm not trying to hate on TDK.
I rewatched X3... It's a tie.
My favorite bit with the Joker is when he puts the dogs on Batman and then beats him with a pipe (?)....if they had been hyenas that could have been straight from the comics or animated series.
There are elements that I think are great in TDK it just doesn't cohere to a great movie for me.
BB is a more straightforward story and Bruce and Rachel are much more sympathetic and relatable characters in it. I guess people would say it's less ambitious but I find the simplicity of Bruce's journey more appealing and refreshing for a Batman movie.
Sorry to be so OT but it's nice to have a civil exchange about BB/TDK. I'll take it where I can get it.
Honestly IMO X-3 is a better film. It's not good mind you, but better than this garbage. I might sound overly harsh, but I didn't enjoy any part of it that didn't have Ryan Reynolds or Liev Schreiber. X-3 at least had the benefit of a plot, where Wolverine seemed to be cobbled together set pieces thrown in a blender with poor exposition between. And let's not bring TDK into this, TDK was a FILM, Wolverine is a PRODUCT.
Valid points, and I agree that TDK can be looked upon as a serious "film" because of how they decided to respect the characters and the world which they inhabit vs a movie like Punisher: Warzone and Wolverine which are indeed "Products" as you prefer to call them.
But I can get just as much enjoyment out of a "Product Movie" as I can a serious "Film"
I can enjoy art from Akira Kurosawa while also equally being entertained by Kill Bill.
I think the plot needed a lot of work....seriously, Sabretooth's got a healing factor! what's was the point hunting down Wolverine for a DNA sample!?...THEY"RE BROTHERS!....awful!...
