True enough, I just think the character of Wolverine deserves the same respect shown that Nolan and Co. showed Batman. Marvel needs to buy their rights back from Fox or I don't think we'll ever get great X-Men films. Imagine how cool Magneto could be as an origin film if in the hands of a capable filmaker and a studio that's willing to give their directors freedom to create?

I believe we've seen a respectable enough X-Men movie, # 2 although with flaws like anything else.

Over time I have grown to appreciate the parts I had problems with.

I have a feeling that Wolverine probably started with "right" intentions but then the muddy financial politics probably began being flung and BANG....Product arises and Film sinks into Hollywood's abyss.

Sometimes I do think that film making is over simplified, these are some very complicated and expensive projects and sometimes the ones whom we believe to be the destroyer of all things sacred which we hold close to our hearts regarding our passions might not be the bad folks afterall and vice versa.

.......Hmmm...

NAH.....FOX SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!

:lol:lol:lol:lol

I enjoyed the movie but I do not have the complete history of all the characters to dislike the films inconsistencies.

In the film Stryker said Sabertooth wouldn't survive the process. I figured they did not have the same healing factor. :huh

I guess it is a good thing I do not read the comics...

You picked up exactly what they wanted you to - they wanted Wolverine because his mutant powers were preferable to Victor's. That's why Sabretooth was so pissed at the end when he wanted the Adamantium and Stryker basically told him to go to his room.

jye4ever - I'm not even going to quote you because we are totally n the same page. :lol

And let's not bring TDK into this, TDK was a FILM, Wolverine is a PRODUCT.

I don't see why this movie can't be compared to Watchmen, TDK, or any other movie. TDK is also a product. Your opinion that Wolverine is garbage and that TDK is vastly superior may be valid but using the term "film" as some kind of pedigree is just pretentious. I think Hugh Jackman and Gavin Hood put everything they could into this movie and made what is, for a lot of people, a very enjoyable flick. It's dismissive to regard it as a mass produced item. This is a discussion forum.

It's just the past couple of years have brought great comic book based movies. BB, TDK, Iron Man, Incredible Hulk. It's like we were on a rise quality wise, and Wolverine to me seemed to take the genre on film five steps back.

I do hope they disregard this movie and let Ryan Reynolds do a solo Deadpool movie. He loves the character and is perfect for the role. Would be really cool if they gave it the Blade treatment, not a huge budget and make it rated R. Won't happen but i can always wish.

I really think they should wait 5 years and just start over with X-Men. Sucj great characters and cool stories. They deserve better. I like the first two, but even they could be better. Oh, and Sentinels please!!!!

Hmmm.....that's what I was trying to convey before....you're describing it better....:lol

Now, i'm going out on a limb here but I believe that the people involved with Catwoman and Elektra probably went in with the best intentions to make a film......and....the rest is history.

I could be wrong here folks but I don't think any director, producer and CEO from these movies companies start off with, "Hey, lets make a real ^^^^ty movie, here's 200 million, lets start."

I'm sure Bryan Singer had every intention to make an excellent Superman movie, he just must've been drunk when he approved the S being the same size of my PF Hulk's toe nail.....:rolleyes:

I'm sure Jackman the actor and producer wanted this to his TDK...who knows......at the end of the day, the Wolverine movie for me simply isn't garbage and I will enjoy it as much as I enjoy some oscar meyer weiners....:monkey5

What shocks me is how crap gets green lit.....Charlies Angel 13 and Norbit....

Oh well, crap sometimes does good box office while some excellent films tank....

I guess another important distinction is that the comic universe is so much more expansive that a character can appeal to different people for different reasons depending on which stories/writers they've read.
Wolverine has run the gamut from a child murdering tool to a young British schoolboy (thanks Joss:lol).
I actually like Gambit's brief screen time in the movie and i can't stand him in the books.
For me it would be a shame to redo the X-Movies, even the lame X3, but those movies do miss the mark for a portion of the fandom.

:clap:clap:rock:rock:clap:clap

:duff

I'm so tired of getting my Sentinel love from videogames....bring it on already.....total world destruction mayhem and the X-Men smack in the middle of it!!!!

Wait...Michael Bay should be given the keys to the X-Men franchise....THERE, I said it....:)

Well...after reading trough this thread, I know I'll be in the very small minority here but...

I liked it. I went with extremely low expectations after reading a lot of negative reviews and many of the comments here...

Is it a basic formula summer movie? Sure it is...but that doesn't bother me as much as it seems to other folks in here...

I'm not a slave to the source as much as some...so all of the so-called deviance from the comics doesn't bother me. It was a better looking production than the last X-Men movie (X3) which really looked pretty cheesy and cheap in a lot of places.

It helped to have actors like Jackman and Schrieber that are good at their craft and are able to carry things through even when it hits some bumps. The stunt sequences were visually entertaining (especially that over-the-top motorcycle vs. chopper scene). It also had a great score from Harry Gregson-Williams who is always a pleasure to hear...I still listen to his "Kingdom of Heaven" score quite a bit so having his unique sound behind the action was a great plus for me.

Lynn Collins also did a fine job (and looked radiant without being overdone) in her roll as Kayla, the mind-bending beautiful mutant that Logan hides out with in the Rockies. Was there cringe-inducing, cliche-ridden dialouge? You bet...but nothing that made it descend into camp.

Sorry that a lot of folks here are really disappointed with this movie, but I was entertained....was it Watchmen? No, of course not...that movie was on a whole different level, but it was another movie in this series of movies that fit in with the rest of them just fine....and judging from the full house's positive reaction that I saw it with tonight, a lot of others thought so too.

That "sentinel" scene in X3 is one of the worst teases ever. Though, considering what the head looks like, I'm almost glad they didn't go through with it.

If they ever do a sequel...please....do atleast 3 other characters from the Marvel Universe...no more then that. I hated the cameos. And it has nothing to do with weather they were spot on or not, it was the fact that they were utterly pointless.

I still need to write a review....:monkey4

Agreed! And it's good to know that I am not the only one who actually liked this movie. :duff

I like the freaking movie. Sure it doesnt follow the true story of Wolverine but the movie version wasn't bad at all. I dont know why everybody is hating on this movie. Some people act like this is the worst movie of all time. This movie is better and way better than Xmen 3. They did ^^^^ up on Deadpool but at the same time their version of Deadpool was a kickass character. I bet most of the hate is coming from people who watched the leak version. I say go see this movie. Just remember it wont be the comic book version but you'll still have a hella time.

You damn right my friend. Im baffled at all the whining about the movie. THe special effects kick major ass man. No problem with it at all. To be honest I wish the story was more adult oriented but this version works for me. I cant wait to buy this on dvd.

Or maybe...the movie isnt well made? Regardless if you enjoyed it, the film suffers from MAJOR character and story problems. Thats the truth. Doesnt mean it can't still be a fun ride or whatever....but seriously....it has its faults.

It does have faults but only "major character problems" if you're bringing comic baggage to it. I would say it is well made regardless of whether you like it or not. It executes what it sets out to do very well. I won't argue that there's a degree of CLUNK at work....
Amnesia bullets still kill me. Not the idea that it happened, but the idea that Stryker could predict it would happen. And James' father bore a striking resemblance to adult James considering he is not his real father. :p

Character problems being, we know nothing about ANY of the characters. I watched the movie before I started reading Deadpool....I just like the character design.

So I know nothing about Wraith, Sabertooth, Blob, anyone....but from this film's standpoint, they were underdeveloped, boring, and pointless. They didnt set up anything. Esp Wade. Why was he picked? Why was that lightbulb guy in the movie anyway? Why were we teased in X-2 so much about how horrible of a person Logan was...when really, he was the biggest boy scout in the movie?

That was where I had problems with the movie.
