I get the impression that some collectors have an elitist (maybe there is a better adjective) attitude about ES and don't like the idea of too many others owning the same item. I don't understand this line of thinking at all.

Neither do I.

I enjoy the hobby for the appreciation of the art and fun of it. :D

If I make a little profit when selling a collectible, and I have, I consider myself lucky.

Well, the ES debate is always an endless one. ES is definitely not a reason I buy a statue but it does factor into my decision in some cases. As much as I never buy a statue with the intention of selling it, it's always nice to know that if I need to make room for future pieces or my tastes change, that a statue retain or gain value...I think anyone can take comfort in that. Investing in statues is certainly not a good reason to collect statues. Also, if a piece has a HUGE ES, I know I can hold off on an EX that I'm on the fence about or just be ok with ordering a regular after in hand pics ship. So, ES has an effect on how I collect, no question. For XM/PCS type stuff where the ESs are low, I know if I want something outright, I have to be on point and get in early. With SSC stuff, I never have to worry about that.

Cant we all just get along? Face it, there are collectors and then there are... collectors. Some collect for the mere enjoyment of owning a statue for whatever
reason(s), then there are those who collect for the same purpose but with investment in mind. To those ES matters as it should, because limited edition and a large is ES is quite an oxymoron and becomes a question of supply and demand.

Im not a "huge" Cap fan but I like him, so to me investment came before mere want for the sake of want. Bats on the other hand Im not concerned about return value.

So both are fine and neither version hurts the other. :1-1:

under normal circumstances i'd agree but recently I've seen way too many fund raising auctions for very popular artist that have been overrun my medical expenses that have taxed their emergency savings. Plus collecting is an addiction that clouds the rational mind:)

Ambasah, this discussion could go on and on but until someone gets to the point where they potentially need to sell, that's the only time they will understand what these high ES's do in the long term. Apparently all the collectors that don't buy to sell are also fortune tellers that can predict their future and know that these things will be with them forever.

that said, I have more Wonder Woman statues and mini busts than I should, and this will be the best one in my collection and I cannot wait.

Yes we never know when emergencies happen. Hell I could lose all my saving in the stock market today. I don't expect to have it happen and can afford all these statues. But who know right?

I agree only if the world can make peace. All the arms race money needs to go into solving cancer and finding real ufo.

You Crack me up CBG. I myself am proud to say I'm a collector and ES factors into every purchase I make. Doesn't mean I enjoy the hobby any less than others. To me finding high quality low es items of characters I really like is fun.

Then you best not go into any of the XM Studios threads:rotfl

Wow, when does plastic become a part of mixed media:)?

Look at the only released statue from GG's Honey Tramp girls (Whisper), The sucker punch girls had a lot of molded plastic components to their sculpts. With Wonder Woman's Shield it makes sense since it is probably attached to the switch out hand that is attached with a prong. I think gravity would pull that prong out if it was made of polystone.

Not to keep this conversation going but you should probably have an emergency savings that is just pure cash and isn't in the stock market in fan form.

Some says the shield is made of plastic, ,is it true?

I also agree with this...plastic would kinda suck...I don't know if there are options other than polystone for stuff like this but plastic just makes it seem....cheap...

Yeah, it is made of plastic. But in this case, I get why SS went with it. It would have been too heavy if it was polystone. Gravity, plus with it being attached by a pin, I don't see how it would have held in place. I wish they used magnets instead of the pin system.
