Re: Wonder Woman for late 2013

If you buy a statue for a character you do not know, its kind of like being a poser. But a geek poser. Which is kind of weird.

I read the comics of and enjoy every piece I collect (except Supes. I don't read Supes. But I grew up on Supes and I love the archetype and look on him as an iconic character that turned me towards comics.). This is why WW wont make it into my house. Sure she's an iconic character but I'm not entrenched in her storyline enough to warrant a 400$ purchase. Anyone that spends that kind of money on a character they don't particularly care for should probably take a step back and reconsider.

In saying that, I know ppl collect for different reasons. Some ppl just like the statues (hence poison ivys popularity) and there's nothing at all wrong with that. But I do have to admit, if you follow a character and have a vested interest in them, the statue is all the more exciting.

Re: Wonder Woman for late 2013

I know very little about WW, I've read a few of her storylines and in big DC universe wide arc she plays an important part (e.g. Kingdom Come even though its elseworlds) however I'll be getting her PF and the main reason will be to have the classic DC trinity. If its an iconic/static pose then its a no brainer to sit her next to Bats and Supes and I'm hardly a well read WW fan.

Re: Wonder Woman for late 2013

Everyone is prob a mix of a couple of these...

Completionists: need everything in a set. Will take on particular lines and try to pick up every piece. Mainly characterized by large rooms full of s*** (myself included). Collection addicts.

Perverts: only buy the sexy stuff. Characterized by large collections of disturbing pieces that usually resemble underage girls.

Originals: follow the originating storylines and character developments. Read the books and comics. Watch the movies. Basically full-on geek. Can whip out the facts about characters that make others feel unworthy of the hobby.

Nostalgics: buy pieces that represent characters they liked before. Know something about them but haven't kept up.

One-Offs: not collectors. A single piece here and there.

Sometimes it's not about loving the character but loving the world that character belongs to. I passed on both Batman and Joker despite being my favourite hero and villain yet jumped on Ivy the moment she went live despite being far from a character favourite. Why? Because it's an amazing sculpt (the best DC PF to date) and my love for Gotham allows me to justify buying any Batman character (so long as I know them across various stories/mediums).

Getting back to Wonder Woman, some people are going to buy her for a similar reason. Not because they like her character but because she's part of the Justice League and they love all things Justice League.

Loving the character or the world/team/story are one of the same imo.

Re: Wonder Woman for late 2013

I'm definitely getting her because I want a JL display & it won't work without her. Also I want a female character in my collection & she by the looks of things will be my 1st.

I dig the dedication. I just have to say though, a couple years ago when PFs ran you 230 - 300, it was easier. Now a collection of three pieces went from 690-900 all the way to 1200. That's big cheddar. At the rate SS charges for these, I wouldn't stretch to afford a complimentary piece.

For me, Supes stands alone. Bats with his villains.

I'm a completionist, like prob most ppl here. So I know it's tough to turn away from even a character I don't care for much when she completes a set.

Has there even been an announcement yet? Sneak peak?

Re: Wonder Woman for late 2013

From what I have been told it looks like the title of this thread is quite accurate and it will be late 2013 before she is announced. Little disappointed if truth be known but as long as they make her the best female sculpt ever produced from SS I will be happy.

Re: Wonder Woman for late 2013

Hadn't seen any art in here in a bit, so i figured what the hell.:)

A lot of people who bought Skaar didn't know who he was. They just loved the sculpt.

Re: Wonder Woman for late 2013

If they had made Skaar as Conan, I probably would have bought it.

CBG... you Sir are a walking talking contradiction....:hi5:

Re: Wonder Woman for late 2013

He is.

CBG doesn't even know she is an Amazon, and he watched the movie where they went on and on about it. Even quoted the actress who stared as the voice talent for the film. CBG kind of brings it on himself.

That's what kills me about him. the guy pays no attention to anything!
He says he's watched cartoons, movies, even browsed comics but has no idea what happens in those movies.
We post comments on statues for 50 pages and then he comes along all "oh wow I didn't know X and Y! That's awesome! Statue of the year!"
and 3 posts later "what? I didn't know that! Total FAIL!!"

:gah::gah:

Re: Wonder Woman I'll admit I'm not super familiar with the character. I watched the TV Show, all the DCAU stuff and read Trinity. But i haven't gotten to her dedicated comics yet. I have all the Rucka's which I plan to read and I think I might get the Simone run at well.
Also I heard the New 52 Blood, Gust.. while totally different is really great.

I just don't like the character or the way he looks in the comics. But I keep him because to me he is a savage hulk. I just consider him a hulk from the past dino times. I do like the looks of the savage she hulk after a bit looking over. But the red she hulk I have no clue. She does look kind of cool.

Re: Wonder Woman for late 2013
