Well, I got the dreaded red light on my 360 Thursday night and now when I turn it on, it just freezes up or gives me an error message. I was going to go out and buy one of the new 360s, but my wife said she thinks I should buy a PS3 since they have BluRay, don't charge like X-Box live, and will have DC Universe.

So, which ONE should I buy and why? Thanks. Also, does the PS3 have the Netflix capability like X-Box live?

I would go XBOX, the exact same thing happened to me and I went 360 and love the new systems, they are whisper quiet, the hard drive is huge and all the stuff you DL'd you can DL again for free. I don't believe PS3 has Netflix though...

Xbox 360, no doubt in my mind. A couple questions though:
1. You can't send it in under warranty? What revision is it? I had an early version die but I haven't seen any of the newer ones die.
2. Connected to #1 - Have you tried fixing it if it's out of warranty? It's not too tough to do and when I did it with my launch era unit I got it working for like another year and a half before it finally crapped out on me.

You should get PS3. It does have Netflix through a disc you can order on the netflix website, is a bluray player and has free online gaming.

But if you have all these Xbox games...maybe you need to stick with it?
I am not a huge achievement junkie, so I usually sell games once I beat them a time or two. The only exceptions are Dragon Age, RE5, and Lost Planet 2...I played the heck out of those.

I am 100% sure it is out of warranty; I got it the first week or two they were released. I guess I could pay to fix it or try to fix it myself, but it might be nice to have a new system considering how old this one is.

Xbox 360, lots of great games, better online play, even if it isn't free (PS3 is not as reliable online, and doesn't have all the same features). And while it doesn't have Blu-Ray, you could probably buy a Blu-Ray player and an Xbox 360 for the same price as a PS3, depending on which model you get

PS3, because it's the only one out of all three current-gen consoles I own that still runs perfectly since the day I bought it back in 2006. I've gone through 2 Xbox 360's and my Wii's gpu overheated, causing some weird screen glitching.

I also wanted to add that Uncharted 1 and 2 are two of my favorite games of all time and since you've had X-Box all this time, it might be nice for you to give the other system a chance and play some of the great games PS3 has to offer. I think you'll have a lot of fun playing Uncharted.

God of War is also awesome and you can download Resident Evil 1-3 on the Playstation store.

Can the PS3 play regular DVDs as well? We have a ton of DVDs for the kids and those being available is important.

I may end up buying both down the road because I don't want to give up GEARS of WAR, but that will be way, way down the road.

I just need another system in the here and now.

Yes it can play both bluray and regular dvds.

I vote for a PS3. It has the free online and Blu Ray. Another plus is that Sony is constantly supporting Blu Ray firmware upgrades. It does have Netflix capability, but for now you have to have a boot-disc in it. This this is free from Netfilx, and in the near future you won't need it anymore as it'll just be an app like the 360.

That was something awesome that I wasn't expecting. I don't game online but they include the upgrades with games and even select BRs too.

Buy Xbox 360 if you like to pay for online service and have to buy a new system every year.

:lecture At least mine still works to this day. Sad thing is that all my Sega and Nintendo machines work flawlessly 10-15 years later, yet Microsoft can't figure out how to make the 360 work the same way.

I don't have my Genesis anymore, but I still have both my SNES and PS1, which still work to this day.

Anyway, If you really want to replace your 360, at least wait a couple months until 360 Slim bundles start showing up for holiday season. Which is what I'm doing (my 360 died a month ago and I didn't want to buy another). My PS3 keeps me entertained when I find time to play games.
