UNBELIEVABLE.

I am what you call an "occasional gamer". I play every once in a while. to be honest, haven't played a game since January. Finally bought a copy of AVP for Xbox 360 and as soon as the game starts, the screen freezes and now I get a red ring every time I turn it on.
I am so upset by this, seriously.

I was playing a Blockbuster rental of AVP when I got the RRoD.

If only consoles were built as solidly as their little portable brothers. Can't speak for Microsoft since they don't have a handheld gaming device (...yet), but I've had a DS and PSP since the first month each were released and they still work perfectly.

Heck I think I still have an original Gameboy somewhere in my parents' attic or basement that probably still works. Built like a brick.

Quick somebody: which s?hould I buy?
Killzone 2 or Resistance 2?

I'd say Killzone 2 out of those two choices, but I thought Resistance: Fall of Man, the first game in that series, was way better than the second one.

Here's a list of great games that I love and think any PS3 owner should have:

-Uncharted Drakes Fortune
-Uncharted 2
-Metal Gear Solid 4
-Heavy Rain (I love it, but maybe rent it first since it's not for everybody)
-God of War 3 (Pick up the God of War 1+2 collection if you haven't played them yet as well)
-Infamous

Download this from the Playstation Store:

-Scott Pilgrim game (It's a really awesome old school beat em up similar to River City Ransom and Double Dragon)

There are some awesome PS1 games for really cheap in the store like Resident Evil 1, 2, and 3; Dino Crisis; and Castlevania Symphony of the Night.

Thanks for the help Boba Ben!

Just to inform the original poster. I just bought a PS3, I am not going to deal with this red ring of death bullcrap.

breaking it down.

PS3 250GB SLIM + God of war 3 =$349 CAD
Aliens vs. Predator =$39 CAD
Metal Gear 4 =$10 USED

I have already played God of War 1 and 2 plus Metal gear 2 and 3 on PS2.

Welcome back to playstation, i should never have left.:1-1:

Next on the play list will be Arkham Asylum and the Uncharted Series.

Costco has a deal= Buy a controller and get either Resisstance 2, Killzone 2 or Infamous for $56. Not yet sure which to get.

For me it'd be a toss up between Killzone 2 and Infamous. Killzone 2 is a good fps w/ pretty cool online multiplayer (I'm not sure if the community is that active anymore as it's been awhile for me) and Infamous is a really fun sandbox superhero type 3rd person action game. They're both good. However, I'd get Arkham Asylum and Uncharted first.

Well...A spare controller is key and in comes with a game anyways so I might try Killzone 2. For multiplayer, I might pickup Orangebox again as I always loved team fortress 2.

Any players out there?

Also, does everybody on the forum play together on the Playstation network?

I have only played online with other Freaks with the XBOX360.

Great post, totally agree! I'm looking to get me a PSN card today while I'm out just to get the Scott Pilgrim game. As others have said, the online is free, but you can pay for Playstation Plus. I love my ps3, I used it as a computer last year when my desktop crashed and couldn't afford a new one or even get it fixed. I've also become addicted to Blu-Ray's as I got a little home theater in my room and living room.

I take it you haven't heard about the Yellow Light of Death (YLOD) on the PS3?

Personally, I couldn't live without either system. I love my 360, despite the fact that I've had to replace it three times since its release (but always under warranty, so it never costs me a cent). I also love my PS3, despite it dying less than a year after purchase (covered by warranty), but not the Dualshock 3 pack-in controller, which died a month before that but had to be shipped back to Sony at my cost.

Neither system is perfect and they both have their pros and cons.

Check out the online accounts thread stickied to the top of the page and send out some friend requests.

Killzone 2 is great for MP I played it a couple of weeks ago and plenty of people were still playing it.
