Apocalypse was far more menacing than pretty much all the MCU villains IMO.

Agreed. The problem is Singer
killed him
.

He should have been
trapped somewhere in the end or suspended just not killed [already].

True... but there's so many quality baddies they haven't touched yet so I'm OK with him gone.

We definitely need to see Sinister, a proper Juggernaut, Omega Red, Onslaught, Mastermind, Dark Phoenix, etc.

Well, Sinister is confirmed for OLD MAN LOGAN/WOLVERINE 3. Grant's a solid actor.

Sinister was actually in the first draft of X-MEN ORIGINS.

Also, that stinger pretty much confirmed the X-23 rumors.

Welp.. I apologize to those people that I criticized for judging a book by its cover.

I don't know what to even say about this.. its something else.

I wouldn't say its horrible, nor would I say its good. It just exists, and I feel as though I've been punched in the stomach after watching this thing.

My cousin watched the late nite show with me, the theatre wasn't as packed as other superhero premieres... the audiences reaction was just "meh", oddly enuff the person that expected the least from this movie, loved it. My cousin said he hated Civil War, and thought this was way better than any other MCU offering with the exception of Guardians.

The way I feel about Civil War is the way he feels about XMen Apocalypse, and vice versa.

I guess in 10 - 20 years I will hail this film as a campy masterpiece, much like I did with Batman Returns. But just like Batman Returns, the anticipation was so great (for myself) that I'm just literally confused at WTF I just watched. I have issues with the screenplay than the actual directing. The editing is really really bad..

there were some diamonds in the film, but its like shifting thru dog **** to find a diamond.... they're there... its just that you gotta shift thru a bunch of **** to find em.

Oscar Issac's performance was a huge disappointment for me, in harsh daylight he looked ridiculous.

There were some really bad ass scenes, and others that were extremely cringe worthy.

The opening sequence with the old skool horsemen was amazing... they should've stuck with that.

The new actors for Storm Jean and Scott did a fantastic job with what they were given...

The "big shots" in the film ... nearly ruined it for me ie-J Law, and Issac... just WOW...

Doesn't sound like I missed much by not going to see this film yesterday. I'll catch it over the weekend and decide for myself. Nothing in the trailers made me feel I needed to waste cash on a prime time viewing. Much like BvS, it'll get my cash but at the discounted rate before 6 pm. :)

Got back an hour ago and here I go.

If CW is like driving a sexy exotic super car at 270 on a freshly paved straight away then XMA is like driving a 4x4 in reverse on a steep rocky hill...with a flat tire...while drunk...not wearing a seatbelt...with the airbags turned off...with your mother in law in the backseat...who happens to enjoy the prequel trilogy.

:lol :lol :lol

I hope to catch this movie this weekend.

Saw this last night. Totally loved it, it was completely wacky. Some draw droopingly violent things going down which I dug. The whole movie felt fresh and new and wasn't afraid to be a comic book movie. In some aspects apocalypse was lacking but he made up for it with presence and was different then anything we've seen before.( his death was awesome) I'm surprised people are saying it's the same things we see with every other superhero movie, it felt very distinguishable from the other movies. The new kids were awesome, but the horseman were disappointing. It was also a great addition to this huge franchise, it fit in to most of the movies (Every other scene I was thinking Ohh I want to rewatch that one). Some great jokes as well. Beautiful in xd 3d btw, even the crappy effects everyone was talking about (Those opening credits, wtf mind blowing 3d). A few more things I can't think of but ill be back.

I thought Apocalypse was very well done. I mean that end battle literally took everyone. You also have to remember he pretty much made Magneto one to be one of the strongest mutants ever.

What I personally would have liked, very small thing, is if they changed the name to Revenge of the Jedi instead of Return. It would have given the idea that this was an alternate reality after what happens in DoFP. That pretty much what we see from now on will overwrite what happeNed before, but still allows the OT to be what they were.

Fan service would have been had he popped up randomly like he did in First Class.

Singer basically did in five minutes what Hood and co. failed to do in two hours back in '09. We finally got to see Weapon X brutally kill two dozen men and leave a trail of blood they were still cleaning up after the credits.

Fan service? Nah. More like cinematic redemption for an iconic origin story they butchered seven years ago.

All because they put him in a helmet and underpants and had wires coming out of him? Those things are really that important?

Nah I'm kidding I'm sure they help - but it was still fan service.

The scene was utterly unnecessary to this particular movie - all he did was kill most of the guards so the X-kids could make there way through the base - but Scott could have done that really. Sure you could explain that he wasn't in full control of his power and he didn't want to risk killing anyone - but equally you could just say that he can moderate his eye lazers and people would have readily just accepted it. Anyway they break Wolverine out, he does his thing and then he disappears having no role in the remainder of the film. These things considered it seems pretty much fan service to me

I didn't think that was just fan service, made complete sense with the past two movies. The whole movie was nothing less than entertaining, if a little overlong. Loved the action. no big choreographed action or fight scenes just a bunch of kids working together and scrambling around with what they know. They looked great in the last shot.

Why'd you delete your post jye? Regardless, I just had a client cancel a meeting with me at the last minute so I'm heading over to catch XMA within the hour!

I'm sure having just watched CW in IMAX again yesterday that will help me to appreciate XMA even more.

jye please compare the action in XMA to TWS, CW and BvS warehouse scene.

Had to update it. :lol

Well khev as expected it is getting more and more jarring going from the high adrenaline high quality type action from TWS/CW to an XM movie or any action movie for that matter.

You just have to laugh when you witness Mystique elbow a baddie, it's like a slow motion Brady Bunch fight compared to TWS/CW.

Look, by this point Brian Singer knows how to vilify humans and how to pull on the heart strings simply because it's the same conflict over and over, you do it enough and it will eventually stick.

This is the year of the lengthy superhero movie but this was the one you felt every second and not in a good emotional way, more of a dragging way.

But I really just need to bullet point my thoughts from here forward.

I'm just going to spoiler tag the entire thing, screw it.

I'm going to bring up Wolverine first, his helmet was so lol bad that I just couldn't take his scene seriously, it looked like he was wearing a Go Pro camera, all just so they could show his face. He really deserved his full helmet.

I now feel 100% confident saying that Jackman is just too tall to appropriately execute berserker rage, his action scene was just sloppy blade swinging and mostly done really poorly with him not in full view, it was just a mess of an action scene if you can even call it that. At least his hard looked good! :lol But i'm now looking forward to his replacement...I know I know doh!

QS fast run was a huge step down from DOFP, he just repeated the same moves but this time it really served very little purpose and it just went on for far too long. At least his strategy made sense in DOFP, here it mostly was just to be cute.

Hey everyone Havoc died, who cares lets just be cute with QS again.

80's setting squandered, it was literally used just to tell that X3 joke.

Apoc motivations were all over the place, he wanted to kill all humans one second then just enslave them again the next second.

He was menacing some scenes and laughably short in others. I got tired of seeing his eyes turn white over and over again.

Apoc sticking people into walls was lol.

Magneto turning bad made sense and was well done but him turning back to good made absolutely no sense which ruins his emotional turn to bad.

Hey everyone Magneto destroyed most of the world, but have a good day buddy.

No one other than Magneto had any real arc, and even Magneto's like I just mentioned had a wacky unrealistic ending.

Umm, Cyclops can shoot a laser from his eyes.

Beast was useless.

Jubilee why?

HUGE missed opportunity not to bring in Juggernaut into this but I guess they didn't want a bigger looking threat than mini Apoc! :lol

Blob cameo was well handled.

Nightcrawler was a standout...again!

Angel only had one quick cool scene with his spinning steel wings, but he was mostly wasted.

Storm did nothing great.

Psylocke's lasso lol.

Muh hero Mystique.

They literally redid the quad strike on Apoc like it was done on Ultron with Jean giving the final blow like Hulk's punch, but Ultron's line was much better. Apoc said "It is all revealed now". What was all revealed, Jean's power? She unleashed and no one got hurt but Apoc...wut?!

I guess Jean's build up to final attack was exciting enough but...

What did unleashing her power mean, how did Professor X know that her power was the key.

The timeline opening credits was somewhat pretty silly, but that signature music always kicks ass and makes things better.

This was Fox finally trying to deliver their epic Avengers type group battle but it all felt flat when compared to TWS/CW/AOU or even Avengers. Magneto literally hovered for the entire battle and for a good 20 minutes he was just hovering doing nothing other than sustaining a magnetic field.

This movie literally had zero stakes had Apoc won. The world felt empty, nothing but cgi death. MCU doing a much better job showing world impact and presenting both the larger and personal stakes.

Sure the personal battle was well written like with Singer's other XM movies, but same ole same ole by now.

Funny dig against X3, came off natural, much better than Deadpool's dig against GL.

Yeah the last scene was cool but they still didn't get the Sentinels's look entirely right..meh whatever close enough I guess.

Great shot of Professor X to close out the movie.

Oh one more thing for the parents, this movie happens to have the 2 most disturbing scenes of almost any superhero movie. Angel's transformation and QS getting his leg broken in exact fashion like those football player breaks. I had to cover my sons eyes for Angel's but he still laughed! :lol

Also Magneto's family getting killed was sad but not graphic at all like the other 2 scenes I just mentioned.

Look i'm not going to lie, I was entertained, how you ask with so much negative, because i'm a hardcore superhero geek that's how.

This movie is NOT a GL or Fantastic Four. I certainly enjoyed it a ton more than Deadpool.

BUT...unfortunately for Fox and Singer, Marvel has significantly raised the bar with team up movies, just ask WB/DC they found out the hard way. :lol

Go see it, you will still be entertained.

I don't know yet if I could sit thru it again though.
