Mystique is an odd phenomenon. In the comics she meant nothing to me and in the movies she's just a "sexy" T-1000. Funny that she's become such an icon. She's cool enough on film but cinematically speaking Robert Patrick really beat her to the punch.

Wait...are you saying Robert Patrick is not a "sexy" T-1000? :lol

Mystique is like the Darth Maul of the X-Men movies. She is just an unimaginably badass background character that looks sleek and deadly and doesn't say much. Before Jennifer Lawlrence of course. Cannot stand her.

Also, people always complain about the X-Men suits not being accurate to the comics, and I agree that they've all been sub-par, except Mystique. That is an instance where I think they made her look far superior to her comic appearance.

I agree with that, I never cared for the dress and preferred something else. I think the nude scaly look worked with Rebecca, but looks like **** on JL.

mystique should not have been treated differently....

she should've been wearing motocross gear like the rest of them. :lecture

Jennifer Lawrence's generic, emotional, family-friendly portrayal of Mystique didn't help much either. :monkey1

It's like they completely neutered the Mystique from the first three films.

Indeed. I missed the cold blooded murderer from the previous films, but I guess she had to start somewhere. But still, Rebecca barely had a speaking role in the previous roles and did a better job than dopey bodied JL.

Thing is when Rebecca's Mystique spoke she had not only a menace to her voice but what she said actually said more than Lawrence's.

For example. What might be her only line in X-Men was "people like you were the reason I was afraid to go to school as a child" that gave insight into her character and motive

Rebecca Romijn was an ok actress, she could easily play a bigger and more interesting role in the sequels.
But only if those sequels were actualy good. If they were about seting up proper X-Men team and Brotherhood instead of wasting time on Loghen's origin while rushing to absolutely pointless Phenix story.

I love the first to X films, but I do agree that it was too heavily focused on Logan. Cyclops was in maybe 10 minutes of film time in X2. Rebecca, if given more material, would of done as good or better than JL... but those films weren't heavily involved in relationships of the characters. First Class and DOFP were more about that, but FC executed that better than DOFP. I hope we get a comic accurate Sabretooth this time around, and actually speaks. The feud between him and Wolverine needs to be explored already, not that Origins crap.

Loghen, really? :lol

I don't blame them for focusing on Logan. It made sense in the first film and he's the "coolest"/most popular character, so it made sense to me. I think they could have focused less on him in the sequels, but if he sells tickets, I can't blame the studio.

Yeah there's that too. He's always going to be number one in the X universe, but in hindsight I feel like so much got wasted in the later films since there wasn't much team work... except for the awful battle at the end of X3. DOFP ended him being the main character at least, but I think they reined him in too much... he's just a bystander in it mostly.

I understand that this was Mystique's origin and it was showing how she became the stone-cold killer, but I think they took it way too far. Half of the reason I disliked her was the way she was written, and the other half was Lawrence's portrayal.

I really wanted to see more of Cyclops and Nightcrawler. I loved James Marsden as Cyclops, when he had screen time, and Nightcrawler was always one of my favorite characters from the various cartoons I watched growing up.
