Just saw this. Reminded me of the trailers for the Star Trek reboot and Man of Steel where the editing and music makes it seem like I'm witnessing the most epic moment in human history and then the films...clearly were not.

Made sense to me..

Future x-men involved in a war. X-men determined the root cause of the war and the date it occured.

Prof X wants to send Wolverine's consciousness into his younger body in order to assemble the x-men and brotherhood to collectively work together in order to prevent the occurances from happening. The reason Wolverine is chosen is because he is pretty much the only other X-man who would have been around, the rest are too young.

Prof X from the past has become disenchanted with his belief of peaceful co-existance between humans and mutants and is also struggling with his disability from "First Class". Wolverine will need to snap him out of depression.

I assumed the last scene where Future Prof X speaks to Younger self is actually speaking through Wolverine.

I hope that they mess something else up in the timelines that alter's the future where Apocalypse is now a reality to setup the next film.

Why couldn't they have used Beast to go back instead of Wolverine? I get that he's the big star, but these movies are really vehicles for Wolverine.

If it should have been anyone other than Wolvie, it should have been Kitty Pryde, as it was in the comics. But yeah, Wolvie gets to go because he's the one who will bring in the money.

Wolverine's the only one available at both time periods whose not connected to the events of the X-Men at the time. Beast was connected to the events and not available in the future. And Kitty wasn't even born in the past yet. They've worked her into the Time-Travel by having her be the one to send his mind back.

But it's also because Wolverine is the most popular X-Man. Same as the only Avenger guranteed to be in Avengers 3 is the most popular.
