Pistons need to be attached on both ends, those are Robot Dreds hanging in the back.

Thats becuase Bay ripped off the Sentinel eyes from X-Men

For me it's all about the mouth area re: the Sentinel head looking like Bumblebee...

It's Purple.
Has the same 'cheek' shape
Has the same shape eyes
Has a grill, for the mouth.

It's modernised for sure, but it's got all the key design elements
