How the hell was howard the duck first, sheesh :rotfl

Makes sense, right?

"Well guys, it's time for us to take Marvel to the next level. To the big screen in front of millions! Who should be take to the silver screen first?"

-"Captain America!!!"

-"No! No! No! Hulk should be first!"

-"Spider-Man, all the way!"

"All very good suggestions, everyone. But if I may, I think the choice is pretty clear....Gentlemen, I present to you Marvel's first silver screen hero, HOWARD THE DUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCKKKKKKKK!!!"

.....

*crickets and blank stares*

Don't know why anyone would be surprised about it being Howard the Duck. Lucas picked this as a project after Jedi while he was knee deep into the Ewok TV crap, I'm pretty sure this was supposed to be developed into his next cartoon until it totally bombed.

DC CBM were kings back then, Marvel was a big joke in Hollywood.

Who's laughing now.

Yep New Line made the first good Marvel CBM.

Fox/Singer made the first iconic Marvel Property into a hit movie franchise and built the genre into a trend thats still going

LOL, I never heard of Blade before the movie came out and I was fairly knowledgeable of comics when I was a teen. D class character that got B+ treatment. Still, it did give Marvel enough clout to really start it up with marquee characters. X-Men was an A class with a B- treatment in the first, A in the second and D in the third. Wolvie was a C-/F- depending on ability to forgive the "evolution" of a certain mutant. First Class brought us back to a solid A.

Put them all together there was a kind of a building crescendo of quality hit Marvel films up to Spidey 2 and that's when we had to wait until Iron Man to get back on track.

It's a good movie. It summed up 40 years of comic book conflict in a grounded, entertaining story with weight and sympathetic characters. Singer Nolaned up the comic book material before there was a Nolan. And yes, I like the leather uniforms. The X-Men are a team, so it makes sense they have a unified look. In most of the post-60's comics, they look like a Halloween Pride Day parade of random characters.

Agreed, Agreed and Agreed.

Oooooh.

Honestly, right off of the bat, I'm not 'wow'd.' It kind of reminds me of a Bay's Transformer, specifically a purple Bumblebee with clear shield (rather than opaque metal - member the 'battle mode' scenes?)

It'll grow on me, but hmmmm...
