I think Evans is a much stronger actor than one-note Reynolds. Really don't understand the pessimism for Cap
I understand the pessimism for Cap given the director's track record and the inherent cheese factor that goes with the character - and I love Cap. Even more than Superman it takes a gifted storyteller to really make Cap interesting.
But it does seem people have made a sport of complaining about everything related to the movie. Whatevs, I'm pretty easygoing and don't consider comic continuity gospel. So far I've been impressed with what I've seen from Cap but I'm not stoked for it like I wish I was.
I'm hopeful that Green Lantern will be great. I've got my fingers crossed that Cap will be good. I'm rooting for you, Joe Johnston.
So First Class - I liked it a lot. I'm a little surprised at the praise it's being showered with - didn't think it was
that great - but I don't mind. Definitely the best acted X-movie so far. The cast ranged from solid to excellent with the exception of Emma Frost, IMO. I don't know that actress' other work so it could be the direction but her blase attitude just came across dull to me. Girls wearing that little clothing should never be dull.
Magneto seems to be getting a lot of attention but I quite enjoyed smarmy young Chuck and his "very groovy mutation" line of BS.
Magneto, Charles and Mystique were well served by the screenplay. I also loved the non-Frasier Beast.
As far as film continuity goes - I seem to recall Bryan Singer saying that this movie doesn't contradict the other X-Movies and I think that's true of HIS two films but it certainly invalidates the opening, and by implication some of the plot, of X-3Ratner. I wonder if that's intentional. F you Brett!
Though truth be told I think X3 is better than it had to be. Ratner has no voice at all but he is competent. And apparently he takes orders well and that gets you work.
