Why didn't they just put Cyclops in this movie? He is supposed to be Professor X's firs student anyway, and his inclusion makes a hell of alot more sense than a C-level character like Havok (who is cyclop's younger brother. wtf?).

But they were stuck with the movie continuity of Wolverine where he showed up. Not a bad movie, but the last two in the series (x# and Wolverine) really lowered the bar.

Stan was not in it. In a recent interview he joked about Fox's decision and said they feel they'll sell more tickets because people will go back to catch his cameo. This was all in humor of course, but the crowd got a good laugh. They do kind of have a point though....:lol

So he wasnt Mystique in the makeup? :horror

I said the same thing. Would have been nice if they had Jean and Scott in the movie.

I was thinking the same thing. How can they have Cyclops appear in this film when according to the Wolverine movie he first appears and escapes with Professor X? Also according to the commercials, do I see Nightcrawler? Didn't the X-Men first meet him in the second film?

Good movie or not, they really screwed up what characters appear when compared to the comics.

Technically according to the books Jean was his first student. Although that has been changed ten different times throughout history.

The reason Cyclops or Jean aren't in this?

BRYAN SINGER

This film is obviously meant to connect to his trilogy. In the year 2000, when the first X-Men take place (although a specific year isn't noted there) Cyclops, Jean were both in X-Men 1 and therefore wouldn't be even toddlers in FC. By placing Cyke and Storm into FC as kids probably around 10ish (Even though Marsden was born in 73) he is placing their ages in X-Men. He even made a joke that the X-Men aging and timespans are different than normal reality although he doesn't want McAvoy or Fassbender to age too fast. He even said that Alex Summers, Havok isn't definitely confirmed as Cyclops' brother.

“Yes, the time line is different,” Singer said. “It wouldn’t physically fit for him to be the brother of Cyclops. We take some liberties on that. There are notions, but, um, I don’t want to give away certain interrelations, but let’s just say there are some things that do adhere to the comic books and do so in a way the fans will get a kick out of. And those things can, perhaps, move forward into the future…. That’s one reason we wanted to call the film ‘First Class’ even though it isn’t the [Jeff Parker-penned story arc called] ‘First Class’ in the comics as fans know it. You couldn’t really tell that story without going even earlier and explaining how they got there and how it came to be. I liked the title, so we kept it, but this is a prelude in a way that will eventually lead to the [scenarios] that fit in more clearly with the ‘First Class’ comics and situations.”

Singer has always taken liberties with the X-Universe. A lot of that is Fox's and Marvel's faults because they just wanted them on-screen but since the Universe is his, nothing from the books can be placed or laid over his films because they won't match up. Nothing in the original two had anything but a passing glance to the comics.

1. Bryan Singer treated this script as if X3 or X-Men Origins: Wolverine doesn't exist. 2. That is not Nightcrawler but Azazel who is Nightcrawler's father who also has the same abilities but is red.

There a dozen of questions brought up that were answered over and over, read the thread folks.

I wish Marvel would get the rights back and redo it right from the beginning. It would be nice to see them handle the X-Men with the same care they are treating the Avenger characters.

I honestly didn't care that Scott, Jean and Storm weren't featured. I was too interested in the exploration of Xavier and Magneto's backstory and friendship to care.

But to be honest, in the films, they were some of my least favorite main characters. I was always a Rogue, Magneto, Mystique, and Wolverine girl. Then I added Pyro to that group and Kitty (one of the few good things in X3).....

With Fassbender and McAvoy bringing their A game to two of the most interesting characters X-Men characters, and more screen time for Mystique with a great actress in the role....for me it was like "Cyclops, Jean and Storm, who?"

I definitely won't argue that Marvel should have these rights back but if X-Men: First Class is the kind of caliber we can expect from 20th Century Fox now, then leave them where they are. This film for me is right on par with the quality of Marvel Studios.

Well I haven't seen it yet so I can't judge one way or the other. However being a long time fan of X-Men, I can't accept the first class being anything other than Cyclops, Iceman, Beast, Angel and Jean Gray (Marvel Girl).

I understand that movie version of things take certain liberties with the original material, but since I am a fan, it bothers me.

I think they should've had him in the Cerebro portion that they had Storm and Cyclops in. I still don't remember seeing Cyclops in it, but I guess this means I need to go see it again.

That would have been PERFECT, actually. Didn't think about that at all. :rock It was a random flurry of people. Definitely an opportune time.

The funny thing is they never even asked. Stan was quoted as saying he wanted to be in it and was waiting by the phone but never got the call.

Interesting that you have a kind of progression in this. There is the obvious Azazel to Nightcrawler in terms of father to son but also Banshee who of course we see his daughter Syren in X2 when they raid the mansion. I wonder if we'll get anymore ties to the future mutants even in passing...

Then the last three films must have pissed you off tremendously given that Iceman was a teenager in Singer's films far younger than Cyclops or Jean Grey and in X3 they already set up the idea that Beast was a student far older than even Cyclops and Angel was just then introduced....I get the fandom reaction but honestly with this films more than any other you have to sort of treat them like they are they own continuity, an elseworld if you will, and call it a day.

Yes overall the X-Men films did disappoint me although I did enjoy some of them for what they were like you said. I can accept them joining the story in progress kind of thing in the first film where they show Wolverine join up. That was basically starting the story in the 80's era where it was Storm, Wolverine, Cyclops...so on and so forth. However, yeah Iceman being younger and not having Colossus there yet did bug me.

I was cool with the way they handled Nightcrawler and Beast. Since Beast was an older member in the comics, it still made sense that he was like an alumini member coming into part 3.

The first X-Men wasn't that great either.

If you ask me Singer didn't take enough or took way too many liberties with the X-Universe, depending on how you look at it of course. He didn't push the envelope with X-Men, but then he shot the damn envelope into space with Superman. The guy needs to know his place.

Love them or hate them, but the X-men films are why we have all of the great comic book films we have today. If X-men 1 hadn't done so well, all of the other super hero films probably never would have happened. So for that, I'll always hold a deal of respect for the the first film.

awesome movie... and best cameo moment so far in a marvel movie :lol

poor kevin bacon... must have felt like he was reliving "sleepers" again for some of this movie. at least he didn't bum anyone in this though.

ps... sorry for the not bumming anyone spoiler. in case you were expecting it.

very true... but personally i believe blade should get more credit than it does for the slew of super hero films that followed. that was one of the 1st and showed marvel how even one of their most minor characters could be made into a successful movie.
