I totally agree with you. To say that X-Men is what caused comic films to catch on is stretching it in my book. What about the Superman films in the late 70's to mid 80's? The Batman movies, Blade, Spawn and as you mentioned, Spiderman was in the works regardless if X-Men was made or not.

Now if you say that X-Men caused team hero movies to be made like Fantastic Four and the up and coming Avengers, I would go along with that a little more.

:hi5:

X-Men started it all. It's a fact. Without it, there would be no good hero flicks.

It's not a fact, it's an opinion. Next you're going to us that Chris Nolan would have never came up with his take on Batman if not for Bryan Singer.

You cant disagree with a fact...it doesnt matter if X-Men was a great film or not...it started everything. It showed the studios that there is an audience for it. Which got Spider-Man into production, and so on.

Again, not a fact, an opinion of YOURS. So DC would have NEVER made anymore comic book films without Marvel? :rotfl

DC/Warner Bros were the first to put a big budget comic book film in to theaters. I'm sorry, but I think you might be a bit :cuckoo:

Do you mean option or opinion? Your post reads differently in terms of what you are trying to get across depending on the word. I just wanted to clarify. Option would indicate that it's a choice to go with that route of explanation and that the facts are being formed towards a personal thought, whereas opinion would indicate that you believe that is the poster's belief and not necessarily proven true.

Opps, sorry. Fixed now. :)

Oh, yeah, I almost forgot. DC/Warner Bros had plans to develop new take on Superman since the early 90s. They could never get all the way there, but they wouldn't have given up. I'll agree that X-Men did play a small role in getting more comic book films made, but to say it started it all is a bit too much.

Yeah it's definitely an opinion on what kicked off the films or what influenced what but no one can deny that comic fans are reaping the benefits. As for the "craze" it may not be as big as the media would like to you believe but currently there are over 100 comic properties being primed for both the small screen and big screen from both major companies including a few independents. Compare that to 1989 when there were not even a 10th of that swirling around especially the Marvel titles which all took almost 10 years individually to finally get on-screen. It may not be a huge craze that is invading Hollywood but there is definitely a boom going on right now in terms of viable properties that will probably not be seen again once the bottom falls out and it will eventually fall through.

I agree with most of this, but I don't think the bottom will drop out.

Eventually it will, look at this summer where you have Thor, Captain America, X-Men, Green Lantern all coming out in the summer. A Batman film in the chamber, a Superman film in the works, Spider-Man film in progress, The Avengers running, Justice League film in preproduction, The Flash, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Hawkman, Ant-Man, Black Panther, The Runaways, Iron Man 3, Black Widow, Nick Fury, The Incredible Hulk (for a third time) all in various stages of preproduction.

Eventually the general public will get sick of it and the bottom in terms of box office results will begin to dwindle. It may not be for 10 years but eventually it'll happen and you'll see most studios pulling away to give the general public a breath. The Superhero genre is no different than the big disaster flick or cop buddy film or sex comedy or teen romantic comedy, they all have waves of popularity where the market gets overwhelmed and then die back for something else. We are right in the beginning of the overwhelming.

I don't know man. If they keep delivering solid films like X-Men: First Class, it's going to be a long time before it drops off.

I kind of agree with this. Although I don't see it ever dropping off for good, it might reach a point of exhaustion but then come back. The same thing happens will all types of films though. Horror has it's up and downs, SCI-FI, etc etc. So I don't think Super Hero films are any different in that sense.

:goodpost:

A new generation of comic, movie and cartoon fans will keep it going.

Well I'll be damn this movie actually kills thor imho. This movie was great my only gripe is that I was impatient and saw it online instead of theater's but I wanna see it this week in theater's now. This was an xmen movie. Begining was slow but it all payed off in the end.

Bring on those collectible's. Fave Xmen film so far.

Just saw it, great and very entertaining movie, really explores some issues around genocide. It's ironic that Magneto who faced persecution under the Nazi's comes around full circle and wants to do the same to humanity. I like how they dealt with Erik's origins.

One thing, I thought Magneto's helmet was succeptible to his magnetism?

Just saw it tonight. I liked it a lot. They set it up for another but will we get one?
Why was there no scene after the credits? Also, why was Shaw old in the 40's but in the 60's looked much younger?

They explained that. He could absorb energy and it kept him young.
