Well besides the Superman franchise that fizzeled out after a 20 year absense and the Batman franchise frizzeled out also with Batman an Robin. Xmen was the first of the new wave of Superhero tentpole films. Once it was a smash at the box office thats when studios started trying to create comic book epics. There were still comic book movies before it but not 1-2 a year post Xmen in 2000.

First Class was Awesome, actually seeing it again today.

Not true, studios had plans for comic books way before X-Men was a hit.

While this flick ignores X3 and Wolverine Origins. .

the time of his First Class cameo, I take it he does not have his adamantium and should have not been the ass he was in X1 & X2. But the attitude does match up with how he was supposed to be when Striker meets him based on the ending of X2.

O i know it was a joke I made and the real reason I dont consider xmen wolverine or x3 to be canon is becuase X3 was such a bad movie and so many character's were out of place and in origin's emma frost is a little girl and Xavier can walk. Lets hope The wolverine strays away from all those mistakes and fall in line with first class.:clap

Saw First Class again. The story is just so rich, its more like a James Bond Movie almost but i think thats what they might have been going for.

Magneto is def the most iconic part of the movie IMO. The character has so much depth. Fassbender did a steller job, I need a high end collectable that represents him.

Found this on youtube :lol

Sorry.....but can't embed in a spoiler:

^^^ That was a sad crowd. :(

When that aired my theater, the WHOLE place erupted with cheers and applause.

After seeing bad trailers for it and bad advertising I said I wouldn't see it. After all the reviews from fans were so positive, I went today and I couldn't have been happier that I did.

Great movie. I don't even care that X1 or X2 existed before it, it sets the franchise in a much better direction.

I've always been a DC guy, but the Marvel movies have sold me and brought me into their worlds. I look forward to every film they put out.

The trailers for this movie TOTALLY undersold it. I can't believe how bad the marketing job was, IMO.

Glad you enjoyed it. I certainly did.

Saw this movie a few days ago and it was GREAT. I was surprised at how good it was compared to the other X-men movies. Glad I skipped out on Pirates for this one, POTC is just gonna have to wait for netflix!

Yes, the marketing was HORRIBLE for this film. That "Before he was Professor X... he was Charles" was the worst thing I've EVER seen in a trailer. I mean, who's idea was that? It at least would have gotten a laugh if it had been "Before he was bald... he had hair!" :lol

And the lack of any toys, merchandise, or any other kind of tie-ins really hurt this as well. Even if Hasbro and Mattel make crappy toys they help promote the film a ton. If it has toys, they expect it do big a big film this year, and people take notice of that. When all is said and done, this did remarkabley well this weekened no thanks to any advertising. Word of mouth is what will make this film successful, just like Avatar and Titanic.

I kinda liked that the marketing was not that great. I really enjoyed that I went into this movie not knowing much about it. Very skeptical. And was blown away by how great it was. Biggest reason that I went at all was that Fassbender has been great in everything I have seen him in so I figured I would give it a shot just on his performance.

Me too, it's the worst when the silly trailers give away the whole movie.

It thought the same thing, very cool.

That's what alot of people thought. I had to almost drag people to see it, then after the movie was over, they were thanking me.

:clap:clap

Yesterday I was flipping through the X-MEN: FIRST CLASS souvenir magazine, which is filled with stories from the comics featuring the original five (they are even featured prominently on the cover.) At the end of the magazine, we are expectedly treated to comic book character bios of mutants who appear in the film. Now, I am far from an X-Men purist, and loved how FIRST CLASS turned out, but looking at the pics and bios, most of these characters' backstories and looks were so FUBAR in the film, that I couldn't help but smile. Scottish Doctor Moira, swoll Victorian Englishman Shaw, alien-looking Darwin, only to name a few. At least Erik, Charles and Emma Frost survived relatively unscathed.

After a whole magazine pimping out the original Cyclops, Jean, Iceman, Angel, and Beast, you get this random assortment of bios for many characters who have nothing to do with each other in the comics, and are somehow the new first class. I guess someone at Fox literally went through a list of mutants, checked off who had already been used on screen, scraped the bottom of the barrel and threw them in the film.

Not that it matters since the movie is still great. Just an observation.

In the words of the great Jean-Luc Picard: "WTF IS THIS S__T!?!?"

:rotfl:rotfl:rotfl:rotfl

I wonder if they are cognizant of the fact that they are making a comic book movie that comic book fans (ie: their audience) will want nothing to do with.

If their target audience is Twitards, then they're in for a rude awakening.

What trailer are you guys watching? This looks boring.

I can't imagine anybody being stoked for this.

Don't listen to this guy, he doesn't know what he's talking about. This movie was the ____. Purists are going to have to get over some of the character choices, but you can't argue that they didn't make a damn fine movie.

I don't know about "best Marvel movie to date", but it certainly is the best X-Men movie.

There was some discussion earlier about a Stan Lee cameo, and it totally baffles me that he wasn't in it considering they were throwing out cameos and fan service left and right in this movie.

:rotfl They're really gonna roll with "Before he was Professor Xavier, he was CHARLES"?!?! :rotfl

I blame all my prior ill feelings about this movie to the marketing. It really did look like a piece of ____ from the promo pics, ads, and trailers. I wrote it off as a final cash grab from a dying franchise. Oh man was I wrong.

The only bad thing I can say (aside from how ridiculous Beast's make up looked in some scenes and the actress who played Emma being very stiff, for lack of a better word) is that I would have liked to see this story unfold over a longer period of time (ie: more movies).

Professor X and Magneto together? More please.

I am illegally downloading a decent copy of this now. ( i have fallen on hard times and can't really afford to take the family to the movies, and i'm not a SUPER fan. I only goto movies really for must see's and this is not one of them) So the reviews have generally been positive, and if i like what i see, i will see it properly in the theater in time.
