Except that according to MS (and this is during their whole reverse every policy that we established at our console announcement) that the XB1 will never not come with kinect. The price will go down eventually after a year or whatever but it'll still come with a kinect.

I for one have zero use for the thing and I'm not sure I'll even use it or keep it plugged in but I still think its pretty cool. Besides, this is just the launch. Who knows what kind of cool stuff developers may throw into their games because of the Kinect. I never bought the 360 kinect but from the sounds of it, the Xb1 version is leaps and bounds over the old one.

Screw Kinect, give me the Oculus Rift.

I wouldn't even be able to use the voice recognition of the Kinect anyways because i'm not about to speak out loud commands at midnight when my wife and kid are sleeping. :lol

I can see it now, house silent, family sleeping, then:

"CHANGE TO BF4!"

:lol

If their VR/AR glasses actually get released, the Kinect will be worth it.

This is true, but so far MS hasn't said a thing about that. That's probably the only circumstance where the Kinect has any appeal to me. If it's just replacing a standard controller like it usually does with everything but dance games, I dont see the point. It's as you say..give people a reason to care about this tech.

I'm very excited about the Rift.

I take it you don't talk to people online when you play?

If its late then no.

During the day, sure.

Especially with BF.

Gotcha. That was one of my peeves with BF. Its a game that's a blast when people are playing the objective and even better when theyre talking, but it hardly ever happens unless you play with buddies.

If I'm going to talk in BF4 all you're going to hear me say is "That ****ing Josh!" anyways. :lol

They filed a patent a few weeks ago, but if they do make it into a new peripheral it won't be out for a year.

I heard about that, but a patent only shows that they've thought about it. We probably won't know if they're really doing anything with it until they announce something. Until then, the Kinect is a worthless hunk of junk IMO. Potential VR applications are almost endless though. They're using the Razor Hydra controllers for Rift motion controls right now. Pretty limited compared to the possible Kinect 2 functionality. One to one arm controls with positional tracking. Could be fantastic.

I like this look better:
