Anyone done much with the cable running through Xbox one? Just curious if the xbox has to be on if you do that to just watch tv or will is just pass the video. Haven't got a chance to play with it yet.

Yeah, the Xbox has to be on. It works pretty well, the only thing is it can't control recordings, since DVR's are so different from each other. But it can switch channels and play/pause/rewind/fast forward
We have some issues with the sound though--they don't have things setup for all the different audio inputs so you might not get your TV audio correctly. On ours we don't get the center channel.

Yup, switches between Home screen, Games and TV just fine with voice command.

BUT!

Does not change channels with voice commands, massive failure there.

Good news is that you can still use your STB remote.

Ultimately I disconnected the STB from the X1 simply because I don't want to run the X1 just to watch TV.

I want to extend the life of the X1 for my gaming purposes.

It DOES change channels with voice. Just say "Xbox, watch (name of channel)". Also, the system is designed to be able to remain powered on for a decade without failing. It was designed with tv watching in mind. I don't think you'll shorten its lifespan.

Yeah the need for the xbox to be on is a lil disappointing but not surprised either. I am experimenting with using a hdmi splitter. So far it looks like it might work. That way i can get the tv functions while using the xbox but still have it setup separate if i want. Overall seems like there are some cool features, like turn off all devices but just saying xbox turn off.

It's weird but at the moment it can turn on the TV and the audio receiver, but it doesn't turn them off.

Yeah I use a hdmi splitter. I use this below, I've had no problem at all

Its things like this that makes more people want to do stupid things and them have news outlets somehow find out. Even the idiot who lost "life savings" trying to win an xbox ended up on Tosh.0

Pisses me off seeing that **** with a free Xbox. It was probably his plan all along.

Desperate need of help here. I just opened my Xbox yesterday and I installed BF today. Tried to play it but no good. Anyone knows what's happening here? I'm frustrated..

Yes, do that asap.

Reason I had mine in there was because with the 360 it was required to have one on file, not so with the X1.

They ported over my CC automatically when I got the X1.

I never had my CC on my 360 and same with the X1.

Yup, never ever used my CC on 360. It was not manditory. :lecture

So let me get this straight. He's 19 and has a 4 year old son. And he spent 750 on what he thought was an XBone as a gift for his son. What does a 4 year old need with a next gen console? If you're going to buy a 4 year old a console how about you start off with a 360 that's currently on sale. Or better yet, spend 750 on birth control!
