Yeah just got done watching attack of the show and they did mention the cheaper console coming out in about a month or so. So indeed the slim will be $199, given some time.

AOTS also mentioned the green dot of death, lol. As I said i'll wait til my 360 craps out and then go exchange it for another.

It's probably just a 120GB version that will be $199, so not really a big deal.

And considering that, If anyone's planning on getting a new console I would wait until the cheaper Slim comes out, the Arcade version isn't worth buying without a hard drive, and the replacement will surely have a hard drive in it.

I think the $199 will hav a 120gig hd as well. I dont see that coming witha 250gig. Either way though I am planning on waiting...hell I have a 20gig 360 and still have 7 gigs free so if I can get a 120 i'll be fine with that.

It won't just be a smaller hard drive for the $199 version. That's a $100 price disparity just for a halved hard drive capacity. I think they'll cut out something else, like the wi-fi and make you buy it separately. Hope not. I want to be wrong, because I'm fine with a 120gb hard drive.

The biggest reason I'd wait for the $200 version is for a bit of assurance that any weird hardware defects or overheating issues (if any, too early to tell right now) on the current slim model would be fixed by the time it releases.

Until then my current phat 360 works just fine. I considered trading it into Gamestop towards the new slim, but I'd still have to pay $200, so...no.

Well, it used to be that when the Elite came out it had 120GB hard drive for $470 while the 20GB console was like $350, so who knows what they'll do.

But really, considering everything else I own has Wi-Fi, I think the Xbox should have it.

I think the wi-fi is part of there selling point, if they take that out and make you buy it seperate it doesnt make sense. Wasnt that the reason behind the new design, I think the price drop is just because as others have stated its a little late in the game to be re-designing and charging the same price. Just my 2 cents.

Are those prices you mentioned from a few years ago? I can't remember all these skus and prices anymore there have been too many.

I read on Anandtech that these new 360 slim models cost Microsoft less to manufacture than the original fatty ones, so that's something.

According to Microsoft, they've adopted Sony's 10 year life span for the 360, so these consoles will still be predominant for the next 5 years. I think they could still remove the wi-fi and sell it separate for less than the high-way robbery price of $100 or whatever. It's not too late for the redesign. I don't see why it would be. The Wii's sales are slumping and its redesign should also be around the corner, imo.

If they don't remove wi-fi, it'll have to include a much smaller hard drive, around 60gb or less. And they'll take away the included HD cables and only give us composite AVs. :lol

apparently the new 250GB 360 already only comes with composite cables, not component which is kind of...blegh...

Seriously? That's just...:lol :monkey4

Doesn't affect me though. I already have some spare HD cables, but for people who're purchasing an Xbox 360 for the first time, that's just stingy.

Lol...this is what my PS3 came with. I remember the day when I bought it, and I picked up Resistance, Heavenly Sword, and the Punisher on Blu. I was ready for some Blu Ray hi-def goodness, but low and behold--- freaking composite cables in the box. I was really surprised, and pissed that I had to order an HDMI cable off of Amazon.

Yeah, these really should come with HDMI cables, it's not like they're expensive. But they want to make more money.

My friend got a PS3 and they got a PS3 brand HDMI cable for it (even though I told them any HDMI cable would work) and it didn't even work.

I bought my hdmi cable from harborfreight.com a while back.
Only $6...cant beat that and they work great for my 360 and PS3.

Yea, got an HDMI cable for $1 online, but still, it's the hassle of actually going to get one when they should be included....oh well.

Same here. I went ahead and bought 5 cables from Amazon. Everything seems to be going with HDMI anyways. Doesn't hurt to have a couple spares if you can get them for $1.

Need some help troubleshooting my 360. It boots up fine and goes straight to the menu, but when I try to play a game or even jump into Netflix it goes to the screen like it normally did except that it hangs there and freezes up. Any ideas on what the problem is or how to fix it?? Should I just call MS and have them send me another f'n machine??

Sounds like the beginning of a RRoD to me. That is pretty much what happened to me when I got my eventual RRoD.

The same thing happend to my friend right before she got the E74 error message. If it's under warranty, send it back and have it replaced or take advantage of the deal Game Stop has going on and trade it towards $100 in credit towards a 360 Slim. Could I ask what year did you buy yours?
