I don't even use my credit card. I buy those point cards

Yeah I think thats what im going to start doing also. Plus my membership is up in November and if they can apparently bill my card then i'll drop the name and maybe start over from scratch with a new name.

They pretty much ironed out most of the technical problems that caused the RRoD with the last generation of Xbox 360, so they should be pretty reliable. I know they're considerably quieter than any of the previous versions as well.

Coupled with the standard two-year warranty that Microsoft offers on all new Xboxes, I'd say you shouldn't have any worries at all.

Just make sure to buy one with a harddrive and not the onboard memory. I heard the systems with onboard memory can have problems with older games that require a harddrive. Essentially the older games don't see the onboard memory as a harddrive and will refuse to work.

Not a major problem.

Good to know.

I think she's mainly just interested in the $200 version. I have a question though, if my current 360 (fat arcade version) ever craps out on me and I replace it with a slim, is there anyway to transfer my saved data from my old fat 360 to the newer slim version?

You can transfer between hard drives only once and you have to have a transfer cable and disc. Microsoft was giving them away for free on the Xbox website when I got one years ago.

EDIT:

Apparently you have to buy them now for $20 and you can transfer from a regular 360 to a regular 360 or a 360 slim but not between two 360 slims:
