Yeah, neither base is great. I think I just prefer the more "classic sculpture" look of the original portraits instead of Sosa's more cartoony ones. They're nice for what they are, of course. I don't know. The new ones just make this another Thor statue, whereas I thought the original ones gave it something different. But, hey, that's how all art works.

I wasn't paying attention to XM at the time of the original Thor. Was it scrapped because most people didn't like it? I mean there must have been some proper hate for them to scrap a whole statue and start again. :lol

I was late to the game myself, bit it seems so, Jay. I'll just try to pretend it's because I have more refined tastes than most people. :wink1:

The original sculpt got high praise, when it was first shown, but somewhere between the shots we have at the start of this thread to the shots for the Singapore con last year the Headsculpt seemed to fall apart...or at least short, and you can't make changes to a traditional piece as quickly as you can do digital. that is why Erick was given the job of resculpting it completely

Well, that makes more sense then, Spidey, because I really don't see what complaints there could be about the sculpts in those previous pictures.

This is how he looked JUST before they decided to rework him...

and this is what Erick sculpted....

I love Tony C's original sculpt, but somewhere along the line it just didn't work... it REALLY is unfortunate because it was a heck of a piece of work.

In the original sculpt it's strange that his hair and the cape are blowing in opposite directions.

I really wanted to like this Thor but I think XM trapped itself. People love them for their unique and modern take on some of our favorite characters. They could have done alot with pimping out his look but instead did the same old comic design. For me this looks like a big upgraded Bowen. Where is the forearm straps, modern boots, under armor top, maybe some cargo pants. I'm just saying that so far XM biggest hits have been their unique designs not their comic accurate pieces. Bring the thunder XM

I said the exact same thing that it looks like a bigger Bowen and XM didn't put their touch on it.

I find that most of XM's Avengers stuff comes out looking like 1/4 scale Bowens once the paint has been added, and I don't mean that as an insult as I found Bowen did some excellent work. It was pushed further into my kind when I saw a shot of their new Antman with the Bowen Antman infront of it, and the XM ant rider out front. Being totally honest it took me a few seconds to see the 1/4 XM as anything else but a Bowen piece. Again there is nothing wrong with that if that is what you want. However, when stacked up against their more complex pieces the Avengers line just doesn't seem as special.

Hawkeye looks much better than a 1/4 Bowen. That statue is frigging sweet.

I think his was the one that burst the XM bubble for me. This one and then the Ms. Marvel piece. Got both on PO but then I realized I actually liked the SS ones better.

Also pretty sure Bowen doesn't look like this. :lol

Take the wall away, and she isn't that much more impressive then a Bowen sculpt. Again I am not saying that as a bad thing... Just agreeing with some when they say that they are getting that kind of feel. However, given XMs philosophy of 30% comic and 70% real in their sculpts that makes perfect sense.
