Nice! Gotta remember to keep an eye on it. It's a good discount to use on some of the movie your a little uncertain about and don't wanna pay value for.

Yeah, the next one comes around I'll let you know if you need anymore Criterion Blu-rays or DVDs I can get you some cheap!

Appreciate it :duff

I'm sticking to blu-ray. If i let in DVD, i'm screwed :lol And i definitely need mmore Criterion. I only have 8 at the moment ( getting some more later this month :monkey3).

DVD Planet has a pretty good sale twice a year - usually in June and November. Their Criterion prices are already pretty good, but they're really good during their sale.

Please keep me in mind as well when the next Criterion sale comes around! I really want to get Monsoon Wedding, Yojimbo and Sanjuro, and hopefully in the future, every single Kurosawa flick.

My all-time bluray Criterion NEED though is "Brazil".

Seven Samurai is coming out later this year :rock

I'm gonna be really stoooopid here but what's so great about Criterion?

:)

The blurb from the Criterion site - pretty much sums it up:

Since 1984, the Criterion Collection, a continuing series of important classic and contemporary films, has been dedicated to gathering the greatest films from around the world and publishing them in editions that offer the highest technical quality and award-winning, original supplements. Over the years, as we moved from laserdisc to DVD, Blu-ray disc, and online streaming, we’ve seen a lot of things change, but one thing has remained constant: our commitment to publishing the defining moments of cinema for a wider and wider audience. The foundation of the collection is the work of such masters of cinema as Renoir, Godard, Kurosawa, Cocteau, Fellini, Bergman, Tarkovsky, Hitchcock, Fuller, Lean, Kubrick, Lang, Sturges, Dreyer, Eisenstein, Ozu, Sirk, Buñuel, Powell and Pressburger. Each film is presented uncut, in its original aspect ratio, as its maker intended it to be seen. Every time we start work on a film, we track down the best available film elements in the world, use state-of-the-art telecine equipment and a select few colorists capable of meeting our rigorous standards, then take time during the film-to-video digital transfer to create the most pristine possible image and sound. Whenever possible, we work with directors and cinematographers to ensure that the look of our releases does justice to their intentions. Our supplements enable viewers to appreciate Criterion films in context, through audio commentaries by filmmakers and scholars, restored director’s cuts, deleted scenes, documentaries, shooting scripts, early shorts, and storyboards. To date, more than 150 filmmakers have made our library of Director Approved DVDs, Blu-ray discs, and laserdiscs the most significant archive of contemporary filmmaking available to the home viewer.

If you enjoy film for more than just getting entertained, but for technical aspects, influential aspects, etc., than you will love Criterion. You won't find any mainstream films in the Criterion collection though (except for The Rock and Armageddon - not sure how those made it in the library)

Actually just finally made the switch to a new tv and blu ray (well had the PS3 already).
But I got a really nice Samsung Series 850 ultraslim plasma 50", paired up with an Onkyo 7.1 surround system.

I am blown away at this thing. Superb colors, saturation and deep blacks.

So my first two Blu Rays are - Sherlock Holmes, and (500) Days of Summer.

And loving the PS3 demos I downloaded too. God of War 3, and MLB 2010 and making my jaw drop.

:drool :drool I'm so jealous. I'm eyeballing a new Samsung tv myself, but will have to wait a few months before I can finally pull the trigger.

I hadn't heard about the waiting period for WB movies... so where are the details on that? I have Netflix, but don't usually pay attention to these kind of things.

Netflix won't be able to rent WB movies until the waiting period is over. I guess they're forcing people to buy their crap if we can't wait to rent.

Man, that is seriously lame...

Oh well, I guess there is a lot of other stuff to watch so I can make do.

Eh, now I'm waiting a month to see Blind Side. Stupid NetFlix. Eventurally I'm sure the movie companies will all want to go this route to 'maximize profit', but for now it really does play to BB's favor.

Anyway, I picked up Carpenter's The Thing at Best Buy for $10 at lunch. I suspect I'll break down and buy LOTR tomorrow too...still on the fence. I almost bought the original Robin Hood (original to me, anyway) for ten bucks too. They have quite a few on sale again this week:

Please don't!!! Warner Brothers got lazy and failed to deliver a great picture quality for this set. This is the LOTR trilogy and deserves PERFECTION!!! Its like they figured people would jump at the set regardless, and know that people will purchase the Extended Editions as well if they improve the video quality.
