I would imagine it would be around the time of the realease of "The Hobbit" in theatres, then they can really cash in on the revamped hype

Someone made a April Fool's joke that they would come out at the end of the year but P.J. has said they might come out with the theatrical or Blu-Ray release of The Hobbit. So 2011 at the earliest which sucks balls but i have no problems avoiding the theatrical cut box-set and sticking with my Extended DVD's.

Yeah, I'll be sticking with my Extended DVD's until the extended versions are released on Blu too.
I watched them last week and they still look great so it won't be too hard to wait

Please don't!!! Warner Brothers got lazy and failed to deliver a great picture quality for this set. This is the LOTR trilogy and deserves PERFECTION!!! Its like they figured people would jump at the set regardless, and know that people will purchase the Extended Editions as well if they improve the video quality.

I don't have the TNT version still on DVR, but I was going to do some comparing tonight between the upscaled EE versions and the new blu versions. Anyone interested in screen shots?

The Hobbit may not be out till Dec. of 2011, IF they get things settled with WB. so I wouldn't look for the blu of the Hobbit or the LotR EEs until 2012.

I have the HD versions in .mkv file format on my HTPC, I think that should tide me over until better can be done. Only issue for me would be AQ.
