Every have one of those days where you're a complete idiot? I managed to do that with Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

I knew that Target had the exclusive with the NECA Gorilla Soldier, and as much as I liked the look of the Best Buy Steelbook, (and the price, $20 for the 3D and blu-ray), I'm a completest with the NECA original movie apes. This exclusive was announced months ago, and I had it firmly planted in my brain that was the one I was going to get.

The day of release comes, and I head to Target to find it not there. I do some digging that day, and learn that it was only an online pre-order exclusive - you had to buy it online and it had to be the pre-order, since once the release day came up it was removed from the site. My nervous tic started in, and I was off to ebay to grab the figure, which I did. Then I hit Best Buy and bought the steelbook. Problem solved, and my eye stopped twitching.

A few days later, I was at Costco and found the Caesar's Warrior Collection, with both Dawn and Rise on blu packed in the Caesar bust. It was $80, instead of the $120 everywhere else, and in person I realized just how damn cool it was. So I broke down and bought it, bringing my total of Rise and Dawn blu-rays to two each.

And then yesterday, I get two boxes in the mail from Target. Yep, I pre-ordered the film when they first announced the exclusive, and I received the figure and the blu-ray. So now I have three copies of Dawn, and two of the figure. *sigh*

Fortunately, I was smart enough to check on the Guardians of the Galaxy steelbook hitting Best Buy today before heading to the store, and yes Virginia, I already pre-ordered it and it's on its way.

Not Happy.

Went to Best Buy to pick up my Steelbook, I opened it when I got to the car to find it was damaged, split all the way down the spine til only a slim piece of plastic was holding it together. I brought it back immediately and was informed they were sold out, they checked the next closest store and had one set aside for me. When I got there I was informed that nobody had actually set it aside, and that they too were now sold out. I was furious, mostly at being made to run around only to come out empty handed.

Manager told me the online store would be getting more in, but I am pretty sure this was a lie to get rid of me.

Anybody has an extra for cost, I'd be very appreciative.

I tried to get an extra one for a freak so I called a buddy at Best Buy to hold 2. He is a manager and knew id be there within a reasonable time. Well crazy ***** ex girlfriend had other plans and went and sold both of mine from hold.

I mean I got the regular one so at least watching it again will be relaxing......until I see her again. :slap

Damn Michael, that's one roller coaster about Apes :lol

I mean at least you can return a few of them, I assume.

Damn, got my GOTG steels today didn't even realize Apes was out, wonder if I can still get tomorrow. :(

I picked up Edge of Tomorrow, DoFP, and Justified season 4 on Blu-Ray, along with Supernatural season 9 on DVD on Black Friday.

Hopefully I can return the one to Target...we'll see.

Is it mainly the Marvel Steelbooks at Best Buy that have crazy demand and sell out? I haven't been that pressed to collect them; I only have the Thor: Dark World Steelbook, but would have loved to have gotten the Winter Soldier Steelbook. Dropped by Best Buy on Tuesday evening and all the GotG Steelbooks were gone. Not that big of a deal to me as the design was okay IMO, but I contrast that to the fact that I got the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes steelbook last week on a Thursday evening...and there were still a ton of those left.

Supply and demand, and they have no supply. First in the door, got a couple copies, went straight to the tablets and got what I wanted, checked out and the cashier told me thats the last of these. :lol

Seriously about a 15 minute process. I even joked with him about how TDW and C:WS didn't really enlighten the stores uppers to the fact they may want to order more?

It doesn't help that they always sell them at 19 bucks out the gate, so theres no downside to grabbing the steels. This Best Buy is in a fairly large city and only got 10 copies, they had 6 as you enter front and center then had 4 apparently Easter Egg'd in displays throughout the store (which is I guess what they're supposed to do).

So the only Marvel Steelbooks so far have been Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: Winter Soldier, and GotG?

I understand supply and demand, but there were at least ten copies of the Apes Steelbook available two days after release...unless that particular Best Buy I went to got another delivery.

I arrived at my local Best Buy about 15 minutes after they opened and there was an empty section at the front of the store labeled "Guardians of the Galaxy Steelbook." Luckily I stumbled upon one of the floating Easter Egg copies tucked back with the other movies. :yess:
