So Far:
Poltergeist
The Mist
Insidious

Watched Cabin in the Woods last night. It was decent, but I probably won't return to it.

Next up is the Fright Night Remake.

Those 3 movies are a good start. I might already be on my 20th movie, maybe. :lol

Anyway...

I feel the same way about Cabin in the Woods. It was just OK.
The Fright Night remake... tell us what you think afterwards.

The House of the Devil (2010)

An homage to late 70s, early 80s horror movies. A little slow getting started, but I enjoyed the heck out of it once it got going. :panic:

Ah yes! I remember this one!

Made in 2010 but definitely has a very 70's feel to it. They did a great job in delivering that look and feel. :clap

I also agree about it starting slow.
I just wish there were more scary/terrifying moments. It seems they save that only for the very end.

Ordered The mist for much cheapness since it keeps coming up in here. Tonight it's some mutated fun with Jeff Goldbum in The Fly!

I got The Fly Collection (DVD) about 3 weeks ago so I'll be watching the three originals in a few days! "Help me!" :rotfl

Is that the collection with the three originals and the two remakes? I always meant to pick that up as it seems like a cool set to have. Never seen the original sequels though. Just the first film. Need to watch the remake this Halloween though. Awesome film. :rock

Ah, yeah. Cabin in the Woods.
This really wasn't my kind of movie. I didn't enjoy the comedy in it. The horror moments are great, but it was the in-between scenes (you'll know what I mean after you watch it). Maybe you'll enjoy it more than me though.

Very cool about the Universal films.
Dracula and Frankenstein will always be my most memorable among that group. :rock

Oh right, didn't realise there was a lot of comedy in cabin in the woods. To be honest I know very little about it, which I like so I don't know what to expect. Just know that everybody raves about it and its supposed to span lots of genres. So sounded interesting. So will check it out next week.

Dracula has always been a favourite of mine. In my early teens I used to watch the hammer dracula films all the time, with legosi's classic, and some other old black and white vampire films, mark of the vampire is a title I always remember but can't recall the film itself. And remember watching the fearless vampire killers and just being confused. Haha :lol

Oh how I love this annual thread! :1-1:

for me it's:

-Nightmare on Elm Street 1-5, Freddy's Dead, A New Nightmare
-Freddy Vs. Jason
-Evil Dead 1 & 2
-Cabin in the Woods
-Donnie Darko
-Eraserhead
-Trick R' Treat
-Creepshow 1 & 2
-Halloween 1 & 2
-It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown
-Simpsons Treehouse of Horror (a bunch of 'em)
-Nightmare Before Christmas

so far we've watched Evil Dead 1, Creepshow 1 & 2, Nightmare on Elm, NBX, and The Simpsons...lots more to go!!

:exactly: it's probably my most visited thread at the minute and the most I've posted in ages. Lol. I love the treehouse of horror episodes too, Ben watching plenty of them around my Halloween movies. Watching treehouse of horror 5 right now in fact. :)

I wish they'd release all the Treehouse of Horror episodes in a box set.

I've actually grumbled about this for years to my girlfriend, over and over, about how I'd love to have a box set with all the treehouse of horror episodes. I have downloaded the first couple on my ipad to watch while at work and I have all the individual series box sets, but would love a collection of the treehouse of horror episodes all together in order. Would be a dream come true. Sad as that sounds. :lol

The Fright Night remake... tell us what you think afterwards.

Meh. It was entertaining, I guess, in a modern horror, cgi blood sort of way. The original was way more fun, and better paced. Now I feel guilty I never picked up the limited blu ray of the original.

The only improvement was Amy was way hotter.

Seriously, though, enough with the CGI blood squirts already! Is that really more cost effective than old school blood squibs?

I agree the remake of fright night was ok, no desire to watch it again though. It did make me want to watch the original again though as I haven't seen that in years. Wish I'd picked up the blu ray when I had the chance now.

Just watching friday the 13th part 8 while at work. Trashy but fun. Saving the better installments until closer to halloween night. Will watch part 1 and part 4 definitely, maybe part 2 and/or part 6 too.

:lecture That's it.
I didn't want to say anything earlier to bias your opinion, but I just didn't get much from the remake.

The original with Roddy McDowall was much more enjoyable, but probably because I was younger and because he played a character, 'Peter Vincent'. Clearly an homage to Peter Cushing -- the ultimate Van Helsing actor and vampire killer. :rock
