Hi!

I didn't know how to phrase the title so if it doesn't make sense, please mr. moderator change to something a bit better....

I was just wondering if your spouse, girlfriend, boyfriend or partner support your collection. It seems to me that many of our better halves do like our enthusiasm of having such great pieces displayed around the house and some even spend hundred of dollars buying sideshow pieces. My future wife is very supportive and even likes some of them (that's one of the reasons I'm marring her :D)

Is this something that you guys love about your partner or is it a struggle because they don't understand why you collect statues?

Just curious.....

My wife began my collecting habits back when Master Replicas first started and its been downhill ever since. She is the driving force at times for my collection especially for birthdays, anniversaries and Christmas. She got me my Green Hulk PF for my Birthday, Doom PF for an Anniversary and Iron Man Exclusive Comiquette this Christmas both of those aftermarket secondary prices so I'd definitely say she is supportive. :lol

She gets more of a kick of me opening up pieces than I do more often then not

My wife has never had a problem with my toy purchases. She knew what she was getting into from the get-go. When we met 14 years ago, I actually was a lot more obsessive with hunting and collecting figures, and she helped me look for figures when we went out, etc. (I don't buy in stores much any more, not much available at retail that I think is worth the money these days, but I do like to DVD shop) She likes to shop too, just not for the same stuff, obviously. We both still very much enjoy going out shopping together. I don't judge her makeup/fashion/jewelry purchases, and she doesn't question the big boxes UPS brings now and then. I'm actually a lot less nuts in my purchasing things now- I have continued to refine what I like, I don't buy just anything like I used to, now I'm an exceptionally picky shopper, and won't buy things if I find too many flaws. I think we have a pretty good balance. She does like superhero movies, it's the one kind of movie we watch together. I won't look at chick flicks, she won't watch horror or the 'ol ultraviolence. She's actually very excited about the Dr. Greg House figure I'm putting together (with the upcoming head Chris Howes is making) she keeps looking at him going "House needs a head! Get him a head!" she wants me to have a Wilson and Cuddy to go with him, too.

She doesn't get excited over them.. Never mentions anything when a new peice arrives.. Took her almost a month to notice the 1:1 venom bust..

Its been a real problem of mine, a lot due to the fact that I get out of hand and buy like 3 or more hot toys in one month and it could go to spending a future with my girlfriend. I've decided to slow down and maybe even quit but not before my last Hot toy maybe the same that was my first, Predator, here I come. Also unless Hot Toys makes a Marty Mcfly I'm content with my collection and have gotten all the grails and top figs. in most peoples top 10 list.

My Wife is starting to come around. At first she was a little put off by it, but then she came to appreciate how I can come up with money quickly with a sale, and she loves it when I "save" a figure and make it badass. :rock

And this year, FINALLY... she has learned to get me figures and stuff for Christmas or my birthday. She's found the key to my heart. :love

Her famous line to people when they ask her how she deals with it.. she says, "At least he doesn't collect girlfriends." :lol

Actually a good question. I only started collecting/customizing figs about 2 yrs ago. My wife was never into the figs but enjoyed the movies they came from. Well she now has over 15 of her own and is part of this site-Saya. This has reduced the $ I can spend on mine but allows me to spend more $ on mine w/o getting in to much trouble.

My Girlfriend is as passionate about the collection as I am...guess i'm lucky in that respect! :D

My wife has no choice as its one of my 3 businesses and brings a little money to the household!!

BUT she does love all the figures and tells me how it is with the head sculpt etc, She loves the new HT Arnie HS but dont like HT Billy HS, and no question she thinks the Enterbay Bruce Lee's are the best!!

My wife doesn't mind too much, She does roll her eyes when another parcel turns up at the door.
I think it's because I am focusing on the SSc Star Wars line at the moment and I can get two or three figures for what would be the same price for 1 HT figure, so it seems like I am buying alot more.

She quite enjoys looking at them too really. Athough she won't admit it.:D:rolleyes:

My bride likes my Premium formats but is on the fence when it comes to hot toys. Although she said Cannibal Jack and the alien figures were very well done, she says they are dolls. But i collect mainly PFs so she's okay with it.

My Girlfriend is as passionate about the collection as I am...guess i'm lucky in that respect

Marry her......

my "partners" dont last longer than a month so i dont need to worry. but once or twice ive had to whip out my pimp hand

:lol:lol:lol

Mine wife likes some better than others. She loves the SSE frank and bride. Other's she's not as crazy about but never says anything negative (aside from space.) She had to deal with 3 PF's sitting on the kitchen counter for a month before I figured out a place to put them. :lol

Take it from one of the "old guys"- if you let your relationship stop what you enjoy, you're cruising into problem territory. Life is so much better when your wife/girlfriend (or maybe both! ha ha) at the very least tolerate your collecting without resentment. Trust me, you'll keep seeing things you want, and people rarely change who they are.

Since I don't have a partner.....no worries! :)

Gee......:(

Don't worry, with a hobby like yours there are plenty of people in the world for you. :grouphug

My wife doesn't have much problem with them. The money is the only thing she has a problem with.

I've talked her in to the Jabba setup and Crumb and she's ok with them. She really just doesn't want anything "gross".

Oh, and she loves my little astromechs. One day I'll talk her in to a lifesize R2 but thats a little while off.

My GF is pretty good about all of this. I think the major concern is the money. These things definitely aren't cheap.

My main concern is how tacky some of these things look together. I think I have achieved a good balance now and only display a few quality items. This may be why some of your wives and GFs hate this hobby so much. It really becomes a bunch of colorful clutter to them and encroaches on their "classy" living space.

My wife and I both have collections. She's got her Wonder Woman, which I've helped her get more in recent years, and I've got my own things. The only concern is space and clutter. If there's no more space and it looks cluttered, it's time to have a sale, or go to storage.
