Christopher Nolan and David S Goyer are to blame for bringing this movie down. Zach Snyder has proved he can do comic book films (The Watchmen) and if he was given full creative control behind the camera, this film could have been marvelous. Unfortunately there is too much influence from Nolan throughout the film, and it feels out of place. Batman is a dark character, suitable for Nolan's directing and writing. Superman on the other hand screams Zach Snyder. The messages of courage, hope, destiny etc. are all fantastic themes that suit Snyders directing and film making style. David S Goyer, like Nolan, bought too much of Batman over into Superman, and simple plot holes and out of place scenes are abundant. Where was the Zach Snyder intro? That was just one thing that was obviously missing from this Snyder film. There were many scenes, however, where I felt the script truly fitted his visual and directing style, and those scenes were the ones that gave you the real feeling that is was a Superman film. Shannon was amazing, once again certifying his acting abilities. Cavill was fantastic, truly fitting the role of Superman. Everyone else felt typical, like I was watching a Superman film with characters from The Dark Knight. Once again, David S Goyer is to blame.
This could have been the Superman film we've been waiting for, but sadly the involvement of Nolan and Goyer has bought this film down to an 8/10. I was genuinely disappointed that I didn't get to see a Zach Snyder Superman.
