Weren't the MM scenes filmed back in 2017 though? If so then I still consider this his "cut" of the assembled footage that he shot. I never expected that it meant that he literally won *every* creative battle. What director (even those with final cut) can ever truly make that claim? Even without studio interference there's inevitably limitations to a director's vision based on budget, technology, scheduling conflicts, weird on-set mishaps, etc.

Yeah it?s his cut. I read the interview where Snyder talks about this.
He wanted to add GL, filmed the scene in 2017 and planned to add him in post-production.
WB said no. Snyder threatened to quit again. And then he made the choice to change his plans and add MM as a compromise so that fans could still get the movie.
Just like you said, it was a lost creative battle, but he still made the choice on his own to compromise and omit GL. He even said that it didn?t mean enough to him to quit over.

Wow, I've never seen such consensus.
If I'm reading this right, which is indisputable, Jye, Khev, Jaws, Clown, Worgar, Ironwez, intothevoid Oscorp and CelticP have all declared Aquaman the greatest cinematic achievement since Breakin 2.

Expectations level - triple hydrogen bomb.

How many people is this now who were unimpressed or outright disliked the Snyderverse but still ended up enjoying this finale? :rock

Even kara has joined the ranks now? I can't believe it! :yess:

When I saw kara posting I :thud:

I'll be honest, I'd rather have absolute gems like Joker and Zack Snyders Justice League than consistent good's.

I think that consistency for Marvel works exactly for Marvel. DC for me is more isolated stories like Kingdom Come, Year One, HUSH, and stuff like that. Contained stories. I don't think DC works with connectedness and a similar tone that Marvel has. I like getting some duds and then absolute gems.

Hmmm your right. Maybe little nods here and there but they don?t need to connect so strongly . The self contained stuff is what DC was good at

I know right! kara is back! :rock

Oh no he is scanning us, he doesn't remember who he is KARA NO!

lol

:lol :lol

His post made me immediately lol when he wrote that he didn’t know how WB would make any money from the Snyder cut.

I was like definitely NOT FROM YOU KARA LOL

I bet that subscription was canceled faster than Flash choking a chick at chernobyl-con lol

At least they got their $14.99 from him once he learned that finally a modern movie would perfectly fit his 27 inch Magnavox CRT. :D

"chernobyl-con" lol.

As was the case with MoS & BvS I enjoyed quite a bit of ZSJL, but as a complete movie experience it just didn't resonate with me. A lot of it had to do with the need to provide introductions for 3/5 of the team within the team-up movie itself, which IMO tended to grind the movie's momentum to a halt. The deep dive into Victor's background didn't help either - presenting him as a resentful momma's boy with daddy issues made him rather unlikable for the majority of the movie (it wasn't until his MB-induced dream/hallucination near the end that I found his character in any way sympathetic). And it seemed that every time I thought things were getting really good a Snyder heavy-handed indulgence, poor musical choice or unnecessary use of slo-mo would take me out of the movie once again. IMO he really could have used a strong exec producer to keep some of that in check. The EPs on this thing were apparently enablers and nothing more, but then given the uniqueness of how it came to be I suppose that was to be expected.

As I've said before, I'll probably be more forgiving of its shortcomings over time as I like the Trinity & Aquaman too much to completely dismiss the thing. I'm already looking forward to its premiere on TNT or TBS, as they'll no doubt trim a lot of the excess. Maybe they'll also play his slo-mo scenes the same way they play the end credits of movies - at 10x the normal speed! :lol

All your criticisms are perfectly valid of course even if I disagree but I have to wonder about the "providing team member introductions all within the same movie" bit. I mean before Phase I of the MCU was this ever really a problem? Did anyone complain after seeing Star Wars that we should have gotten solo Han, Luke, Leia, Ben, Chewie, and Droids movies? :) Or a solo origin film for all nine members of the LOTR Fellowship? Or all the sports movies that center around a team of players, war movies about a platoon or squad, Seven Samurai, Dirty Dozen, and countless others.

Even with regard to superheroes Singer's X-Men seemed to do a pretty good job of introducing everybody in one movie. And like you said the Trinity at least got their intros in the prior two films. For me it just comes down to does it *feel* rushed or just a natural organic introduction with all the necessary info to make me care about any given character? And while I do think that having Batman and Supes face off so soon in the prior movie did seem rushed, same with killing off the latter, I didn't actually feel that way with the ZSJL intros, especially since the run time was basically two entire movies anyway.

I'm waiting to get the new IMAX BvS before I binge all three but I'm even wondering how rushed the BvS fight and Supes' death will feel now that I have the grander tapestry in mind. I kind of suspect that judging the whole thing on it's own finished merits instead of by "how the MCU did it" I'll find that it plays much better going forward.

It?s funny cause if a justice league movie came out years ago we wouldn?t care about the multiple movies before hand to establish the characters. We?d just except the world as is. I think marvel set that bar high. That characters need a movie introduction before you do a team up movie. It does work better however

This movie was supposed to be part of an on-going extended universe with characters that have (1) a rich history from the comics & (2) avid fan bases, so comparing it to one-off movies like Dirty Dozen, Seven Samurai or even Star Wars (no one knew in the beginning it was going to be THAT successful & spawn sequels) doesn't quite track. Even the X-Men are known primarily as a team first and not a collection of stand alone heroes brought together due to extraordinary circumstances like the JL. So knowing it was supposed to be the assembly of these characters to fight off a threat of cataclysmic proportions, spending half the movie getting to know the participants and delving into their personal issues didn't work for me, especially when the movie is 4 hours long and tells the same basic story the 2017 2 hour Frankensteined version did. Try as I might it's hard to dismiss the fact that this thing was born of Snyder's original failure to tell his JL story in a concise enough manner that it could be shown on the number of screens WB felt it needed to break even, let alone become the blockbuster they thought they'd funded.

I do like how Zack got Batman's origin out of the way in the opening credits. Yes, it's been covered umpteen times before, and yes he still made it powerful.

I actually liked that scene to. In the opening credits maybe it was a good idea to show bits of the JL origin

I thought the introductions to Flash, Cyborg, and Aquaman were fine in ZSJL - especially Cyborg. The runtime serves them well. I don't mind them not having solo movies first - but I will always wish we got the Ben Affleck Batman movie. :monkey2

It's a shame Ray was booted from Flashpoint; it would've been awesome seeing him, Flash, and Batman together again.

Yeah I wish they would’ve went through with the solo Ben Affleck Batman film. Deathstroke being the main villain would’ve been cool to see. Wasn’t some of it set to take place at Arkham too?

Yep. It came out recently that they actually had the shooting location picked for the interior of Arkaham too - it was going to be the same hospital from Fant4stic.

And Joe Manganiello confirmed Batgirl was going to show up to help in the final Deathstroke fight.

Ironically I just rewatched it tonight for the first time since opening night and really liked it. It's not a masterpiece at all, but it looks absolutely stunning and Momoa is fun. I wish the Hot Toys figure actually looked like him.

For some reason, at the giant crab whatever monster thingy towards the end of Aquaman, I was half expecting this to happen:
