Troll?

I was rerally angry with the whole thing once it was over, and I asked my friend if I had had a stroke somewhere along the line because it made no sense. Now you have me thinking I did, but not because I had a stroke. I need to see it again.

What do you mean?
The overall style had an almost video game tone. Mix into this uncomfortable violence and lobotomy of sexualized dancing girls and I think you have a mean spirited movie. Once it tried to get serious I thought it became uncomfortable and kinda dodgy. Girls and guns and monsters are fine, but if you mix some very serious themes in there, child abuse, rape, lobotomy, and girls being shot in the head, then you need a much sharper and intelligent script and screenplay. IMO it came across as juvenile and inappropriate. And setting it to music didn't help. I mean steam came out of the nazi zombies when they were killed yet 30mins later we see sugical lobotomy instruments covered with blood. Tasteless!
It was neither an adult nor a kids movie. But there were kids in the theatre when i saw it.:thud:

Snyder didn't give it a PG-13, Warner insisted on it. He shot it R, An R version will be released on BD & HV..allegedly. There is a lot of material which was removed including the musical numbers seen in the closing credits. Expect at least 3 WHV releases! Special edition, Harder edition, and full t.i.t.t.y edition! We can hope!
:monkey3

There wasnt any nudity filmed....

No of course not. Only kidding. Not with the actresses involved. But there was violence shot (pardon the pun). Here is an early indicatator..

Synder:
"They've never said, 'Ahh, it could have been shorter,' or, 'Too bad it's so R-ish.' And that's really cool. I'm challenging them again with Sucker Punch."[21][26][27] In early interviews, Snyder stated that he would make Sucker Punch an R-rated film, but a later interview he then stated that he was aiming for it to be rated PG-13.[28] In its theatrical release, the movie was ultimately rated PG-13."

The best sense I was able to make of it after I saw it (I had been up for 17 hours, and I spent the first 7 hours with a headache) was that the dramatizations were just her own symbolism for the greatness of what she had done. If you're immediately assuming that the dream world was cheap and juvenile, then I don't know what to tell you. If you take it as a glorification of her escape plan, then it's just a demonstration of the superiority of her soul over the people who made the hell in the asylum possible. Her actions destroyed the man who orchestrated the abuse of the girls, and even if she wasn't able to save them all, she stopped it from going any further.

It sounds like you're decrying the fact that the asylum was a hell where really bad things happened, but there would have been zero point to any of it if it wasn't.

Well,
after all the bad reviews and people complaining about it I was expecting something terrible...
I actually enjoyed this movie quite a bit!
Better than Battle L.A. that's for sure!! :lol!
This was very entertaining and an interesting take on simple emotions IMO...
And obviously a visual fest, which is Snyder's strength!

I saw it again last night. It was slightly different than the rough cut I saw a few months ago, but the changes weren't huge. I enjoyed it just as much as I did the first time, maybe more.

My brother and his two friends also loved it. One of them even hated 300 and Watchmen and was pleasantly surprised. Can't wait to get this on Blu, it's gonna look beautiful.

Once a PG-13 rating was decided upon, Snyder filmed specifically to avoid the temptation of racier, gorier material — and with good reason. He pointed to an infamous example. “If I saw this movie and it was rated-R, I would be super pissed,” Snyder admitted. “I’d be like, are you kidding me? Remember Constantine? Constantine was meant to be rated PG-13 and I remember watching Constantine and there’s a scene where Rachel Weisz is like, OK, I have to get in this tub in the water — should I be naked? And he goes, ‘No.’ And I’m like, NO? What kind of a movie is this!?”

Definitely one for the blu.

I think I will have to give it a watch. Maybe this weekend we can get out to see it.
