No, I mearly said was "I cant wait for this movie, it's going to suck, but at the same time be totally awesome".

Ban hammer.....:dunno

I wasn't talking about you. I also misunderstood what Rorywan was talking about (his post is gone now), so in effect, I wasn't talking about him either.

Chalk it up to doing too many things at once. I need more friends---friends don't let friends post and not know what the ____ they're talking about. :lecture

Cool user title.

plain and simple...i wasn't a fan of this movie...i prob would have enjoyed it a lot more on mute

I haven't read that article (way too busy). But if it claims that no nudity was ever filmed, then it's wrong. Period. And if Zack is saying that (or hinting at it) then he's sand-bagging for whatever reasons.

Well, he decided not to use it....obviously.

I still don't know why this movie is being the target of EVERY destructive critic out there.

It rubs a lot of people the wrong way. Part of that was intentional (the whole "Empowerment" vs "Exploitation" and "Feminist vs Anti-Feminist" debate was much expected and is quite hysterical to watch) but I don't think anyone expected people to react so strongly or seriously. It's interesting.

The pretensions of the film invite more serious criticism. It isn't just eye candy like a Transformers where you can accept it for surface value. It obviously wants to be more than that, yet fails on any level above "eye candy". Since that higher level interpretations are muddled, the perceived misogyny comes to the forefront. If the "female empowerment" message was clearer, people wouldn't have a problem with how that message is delivered and it would be heralded as genius for delivering a "girl power" message in a teenage boy's fantasy film.

Seriously I've seen a lot worse movies with higher ratings...
I'm also confused by why critics are hating it so much... :dunno
With so many remakes, sequels, prequels, etc... you'd think that somewhat fresh material would be welcomed... even if it's derivative of existing movies...

I mean, the Green Hornet, Battle L.A. and Mars needs Moms have higher ratings??? Gimme a break!! :lol

Excellently put Darklord,
It deals with subject matter which is far more complex than the film itself. It comes across as inappropriate. The creative and artistic level of the movie is not of the quality to allow the discussion of these subjects. As a result, it comes across as ham fisted and juvenile. And quite tasteless, I might add. IMO that is why the critics have had a field day with it. The general public, it must be said, have also not responded well, I saw it in LA yesterday for the second time, the theatre was almost empty (on opening weekend) and several people walked out. Not because it was overwhelming, but because it was bad. I think its a great pity, we need movies like this to be hits, or hollywood will stop funding original material like this. :(

Fair enough. But at the end of the day the film isn't even remotely as pretentious as a lot of the criticisms thrown at it. Trust me, it wasn't meant to be taken nearly as seriously as many think, or dissected like INCEPTION or something.

And anyone who think's Zack is even remotely misogynistic is clearly not familiar with his work. All of his films (even 300) has at least one strong female character that out-does a man at something.

The problem is...it's not brainless enough to sit and watch, and it's not intelliegnt enough to think it over.....

It's a very strange film. And I enjoyed it. :lol

I've never really thought about it, but hasn't a woman been raped in every movie he's done thus far?

Hahaha......ahah...not in Dawn of the Dead...

But I think it's Zack's way of doing the worst thing possible to a woman, and having her grow stronger because of it?

However, 300 wasnt really a rape...it was consensual. :monkey4 Consensual butt sex.

A zombie baby raped it's own mother on the way out?

Watchmen has rape and Sucker Punch has implied rape. I need to watch the Owl movie to see if an owl gets raped now.

Uh... WATCHMEN has no rape scene. It has an attempted rape. Big difference. I can't believe how many people still fail to make that distinction (even with the book).

What is the implied rape in SUCKER PUNCH?

WTF? She orgasmically dances to distract her male holders?. How is that empowering? The morality in SP is all over the place. And trust me I am no prude, I like uber-violence as well as the next man, but mix in bad acting, female lobotomy, rape and potential incest and gloss over the whole thing with sailor moon sexy girl outfits and you have a problem. I don't think I was ever offended by the blind sexist nature of a movie before! But 2 thirds in and I was starting to feel creepy. It's like a porn movie with no sex.
The acting was awful, the blocking was awful, some of the sequences with the girls running around would be embarrassing in a madonna video. And the FX were really awful at times. Vulgar, disaster. IMO (and most of the movie going public agree by the look of the BO RECEIPTS).
And I am very familiar with Snyder's work. Nice music and design though
