There is one thing that I am interested in by some of the people who defend this movie, but bash on Avatar for being unoriginal.
I mean there is nothing wrong in liking the movie, but you have to admit this movie is just as guilty in blatantly ripping off the likes of Brazil and Pan's labyrinth, to name but two.

What an odd comparison, considering AVATAR broke box office records and made people all over the world cream their pants like they just witnessed the Second Coming.

No one (its most diehard fans or even the filmmakers) would ever have pretended that SUCKER PUNCH was an important cultural touchstone even if it had made crazy AVATAR money. Those who made & like SUCKER PUNCH know exactly what it is. That's a notable difference. Nobody would have pointed out AVATAR's derived elements had most of its fans (and Cameron) not portrayed it as a cinematic epiphany ala STAR WARS.

Also I want to add that even though did not like the movie, I still think it could gain a cult status

speaking for myself sucker punch is already a classic

i love this movie and the fact that so many people don't like it make me love it even more.

Im just disgusted with the art of film in general ....

Saw it today in the fake Imax ( so sad :( ) and actually thought it was better than I imagined it to be. I figured it would be mindless action scenes with the Snyder flair, I was actually drawn into the storyline enough that I cared about the girls.

I can see how folks wouldn't like it, it's one of those movies you either like or don't, not a lot of inbetweens. I felt it was worth the money and I'd really liked to see what the directors cut brings.

Yep. In short you're only allowed to be a hyprocite if the movie YOU like was a critical and financial disaster. :lecture :D

Bull spit. The entire point is that people lagged on AVATAR for being "unoriginal" and derivative of other recent movies because it was being over-valued and was smashing box office records, and because Cameron is a narcissist who actually carries himself as a man who just gave a great gift to the world. It was head-scratching. Had it tanked no one would have given any of that a second thought. In fact, most of the people who levied that criticism against AVATAR actually liked the movie... we were just baffled by the Face of God phenomenon that happened.

The 2 movies (and their situations and fates) have pretty much zero in common. The comparison is an empty canard.

Where exactly is the hypocrisy? Who specifically is guilty of it? Quantify it for me, please.

:lol

I'll name a hypocrite if you name someone who actually called Avatar "the Face of God."

I never said it was "the Face of God". I said it was a "Dances with Wolves clone in space." :monkey1:yess::rotfl

It was only missing tatonka. But the director's cut took care of that and added space tatonka. So we are good! :rock

Except that they both Plagiarise other movies

Which is immaterial to this discussion (especially since you just admitted that's not why you don't like the movie). So why go there?

But since you did... I'll further point out why even the derivative nature of both films is not comparable: One wears it on its sleeve while the other pretends it's all a coincidence.

You see, Cameron got all ________ by the "Dances With Wolves in Space" comments, whereas Snyder's first description of SUCKER PUNCH was "Alice In Wonderland with machine guns", which made it obvious from the get-go that he was making a fusion flick.

Again, it's not a viable comparison. You can dislike or hate SUCKER PUNCH all you want. That's cool and fair. But to say anyone who likes it but criticized AVATAR is a hypocrite is silly. These are two completely different movies, made for different reasons and with extremely different sensibilities. Therefore, people will like/not like them for different reasons.

Comparing Avatar and Sucker Punch is a bit like comparing patio furniture to kitchen appliances. Not really relevant.
