I think everything was real, but just in a hyper reality. But that's just me.
Ha thanks guys. I'm just simply not with the critics on this one. Baby Doll was incredibly sympathetic and the action was a blast. The first 10 minutes felt like a big budget remake of Janie's Got a Gun but after that it really pulled me in. It was fun trying to "figure it out" and I wonder if I came to the same consensus as everyone else.
Here's my take:
To me the other girls weren't imagined per se but were actually alternate personalities that were being systematically eliminated by therapy. That's why it didn't matter who carried on the story or however she put it because whoever it was would still be her. She knew the lobotomy would only leave her with one dormant personality so she protected the one that was predisposed to living peacefully in la la land. However in the course of her "journey" we learn at the end that she really did help another girl escape, thus inadvertantly inspiring at least one person in the real world as well.
It was a very cool ride. While I do feel a little silly dropping 17 bucks (!) to watch it on TV a week before the blu-ray hits I'll probably buy it then too.
Hi Khev, one more to go I've been following this movie steps since it first appeared, and logged in here to comment about GG f____ delay but never commented over here....
I think almost the same. But some people said if every girl were in her imagination, the hole movie was a waste of time. For me it wasn't.
They were real, at the beginning you can see them at the asylum, but I think the way we saw them throught bdoll's mind was not reality at all, but her imagination though.
It has a lot of art work related with the plot, everything (or almost everything) that you see was connected with something of the story itself. Like the bunny of the mecha, the mother dragon, the sword, the gun, the gun charms, even Babydoll shoes ...
It shows a lot of what happened to women at that time .. difficult topic. A lot of abuse, sexual or not, etc.
Right now I'm out of town on a business trip and the hotel my company has me staying at had Sucker Punch as a pay per view so I decided to check it out last night. Not at the theater but at least is was a 50 inch plasma screen.
I actually liked it quite a bit.
Scotland has the blu-ray already?

Burn it. Or stomp on it, then burn it.
