Pretty sure ROTJ is set in the ESB mold since they designed it to come apart, doubt they will redesign the mask. DX28 is probably the most accurate Vader mask from hot toys we will get in a while, the next Vader is likely ROTS for the anniversary next year, I personally have zero interest in that one.

I re-worked a R1 mask/helmet for my Empire Vader.

I widened the chin vent and added some custom mesh. I wanted to add the same mesh to the mouth vent as well, but it would involve a complete reconstruction of the whole of the mouth area. It can't really be seen from a distance, or under lighting on my display shelf so i'm ok with it. Besides.. HT are going to re-work the ROTJ Helmet to be the greatest ever, so i've probably wasted my time on this:giggle:

I sanded down the neck length by a few mm's and then repainted the mask using Tamiya gunmetal spray. I hand painted the black areas. Sanded and rounded off the widow's peak on the helmet as well.

For those interested...the Helmet/mask, body, chest/shoulder armour and boots are from the R1 version. Everything else is Empire.
I still want to make a few tweaks to the belt and the chest box straps, but i'm happy with the results so far :vader

Great work!

And thanks for the tip of using Tamiya gunmetal spray. Guess I'll be doing a complete repaint of the 1:4 HT Vader helmet I'm working on...

Did you use TS-38 (gunmetal satin)?

Yes that's the one. At first i thought that it might be a little too light, but i love the contrast with the black, which is how it should be.

The HT paint apps are way too dark looking. As bad as the SS versions are, at least they got the paint schemes more accurate.

I re-worked the belt so that the saber hook now sits more to the front. I also removed the silver stud.
On the R1 body and boots Vader stands around 13 and 3/4, which i think works best when you consider the scale of everything.

This looks incredible! (And so does that boba)
I’ve been debating changing the body on my empire Vader
Do the empire boots work with the rogue one body?
Also how tight is the empire belt on that body?
The belt on my empire is so tight and frustrating to move and hard to make the inner tunic look decent

That Boba helmet looks amazing where did you get the base helmet from? Or did you make print/sculpt it yourself?

Yes the empire boots fit the R1 body and vice versa.

The belt is a tad looser on the R1. I'm not a big fan of the peg fastener on the buckle, so i cut the belt at the back and added a strip of velcro. It makes it way easier to position as i wanted it to slide down over the top of the codpiece.

The helmet is my own custom made from the old MARMIT version with bits of SS and HT added.

Here's the thread that explains everything.

I made some alterations to the chest box and straps. I moved the box upwards so that it now sits closer to the bottom of the chest armour.
I know that it sits lower in the Gantry scenes, but i prefer it higher up on the chest.

I also swapped out the pleather straps for real leather. On the original prop they were brown but dyed black. They still appear to have a brownish hue to them in the promotional pics.

As all i had laying around was some black leather, i dry brushed the straps with some brown paint to give the illusion.

I have the body suit and light up features from the DX28 version on the way, and i was hoping to customise it into an Empire vader...but then i realised that the lights on chest box don't flash :(

I’ve thought about swapping out the body…., was there any issue with getting the ESB parts to fit on the ANH body? …especially the helmet?

Old bump, but I was working on some tweaks for my ESB vader. I'm wanting to fit the R1 armor, but there is a huge gap under the neck. You said you sanded down the neck and was wondering how you did that since the ball/socket connection prevents the head from going lower

You don't have to sand down the neck. I also used the R1 armour on my ANH version and it fits fine.

You'll need to put some padding at the back of the chest armour though, to have it fit more snug.

I used some pieces of foam.

Thanks for that. Ok, so how did you deal with the neck gap? I don't have the robes on, but even with them it leaves a gap if sitting flush on the shoulder. Push it up higher where it's sitting off the shoulder?

Yes, you need to push it upwards and back a little. The pieces of foam attached to the back of the armour will help hold it place.
