Quite frankly, anyone complaining about this figure after seeing this shot is smoking crack and needs to severely re-think what they expect from an action figure.

To me, this shot alone should quieten any concerns.

Also, people picking over the grey in the beard/mustache need to watch the movie again, it's there, it's there big time.

Are you looking at the same pics I am? The grey may be there, but it is subtle. This is far from subtle. I'm not saying this isn't a great looking piece, just that there is too much grey in his mustache. The sideburns look great though.

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

Well, as WorGor said, the grey is going to Obi Wans "Lipstick" problem, but it doesn't bother me as much as Anakins lips. Plus if I want, it's easier to fix. I think from looking at these pictures it's good. I mean the prouction pieces were amazing, and got our hopes up, and than we got the real pics on SS and shot our hopes down, but WG's pics definattly rattle with the reality of it all. It's a mass produced figure, and is pretty good, minus the grey problem.

It looks better than Mace and Anakin to me, as good as Han, but not as good as Kit or Luke. But again I can't judge it until I have it in hand, which will be a while cause' I didn't get it from SS.

That sounds great, but can you paint?

(I mean no disrespect. I've never seen your work.)

Eric

Well here is my best example....

And I mean no disrespect either... but if you are going to judge my pics.... look a little deeper than my first page. Back then I was taking pics with my cell phone. My latest pics are a LOT nicer....

Well I guess I have to put down the pipe then because that grey looks like sh*t. Or maybe you could pass to me whatever it is you're smoking if you think that grey in his moustache looks good.

Grey in the movie sure, but he doesn't walk around looking like he just ate a box of powdered donuts. If it was more subtley done, or eliminated all together It would look much better I'm sure.

You're right. My apologies. I made my remark too quickly. I did look at the rest of the pics and your paint jobs are very good. Excellent job.

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

I'm pretty pleased with it. Don't have Obi in hand yet, probably won't for a while too. But I think overall he came out pretty good based on the pics I've seen. I might have a go at the hair and beard but that's just me.
Congrats, Wor Gar!

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

I guess I'm in the minority here but I still think a great amount of detail has been lost (especially in the face) compared to the SDCC figure!

These pictures change nothing for me, my previous comments and opinion still stand.

No problem Eric.... and thanks for the comments... My earlier pics looked like hammered ass...:lol

And that Obi sculpt is pretty good... not perfect, but very nice nontheless... I think it does the character justice.

I'm betting that top-notch paint jobs by Custom Mikey and Les Walker will really make this sculpt look the way it should. I'm sure their work can make this figure look just like the one on display at SDCC.

I'm sure it will.

However, top-notch paint jobs by Customikey can make Hasbro's sometimes-underrated sculpts look awesome also. (His Ben is a great example.) Unfortunately, I'm not paying SS for a starter kit that costs another $40+ to complete.

I'm reserving judgment on this, my most-wanted collectible, until I'm holding it in my hand next week, but that grey does not look good, to my eye.

I think the grey in the mustache stands out so much because it is applied to the raised areas and light is reflecting of the surface, the grey and the glare are mixing together and exagerating the grey highlights to an extreme. Look closely at the beard on the chin, see the glare of the raised areas and imagine abit of grey highlighting there as well. I think the "got milk" look is a combination of the glare and the grey highlighting and is probably being amplified by the extreme closeness of the the actual photo. Wor-Gar shot these photos while in a hurry, and with the natural light of the sun coming and going because of clouds, he didn't have the time to get truely accurate representations. I'm sure the grey in the mustache might be a tad over done, but as always photos tend to exagerate the negative aspects of the paint apps because of how large the image is compared to the actual size of the the head. I mean think about how big the actual mustache is, lets say 1/8th of an inch from nose to lip, that would mean the highlights are from 1/16th to 1/32th of an inch, thats pretty darn small. From 2 feet away or from a normal viewing distant the grey will be slightly noticeable as highlights, but I doubt that it will be that much of a distraction.

I agree Mr. Hill. If it looks that off when I get it as far as the grey I'll have a complaint. However, I do think you nailed it in that these pics never make these look as good as they do in person. That's why I'm gonna wait to totally hold judgement on the things I don't like till I get mine next Thursday.

No, he isn't. I thought the same thing.

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

As a well known fast food manufacturer would say - " I'm lovin it!"

Thanks for the pics Wor gar ! It seems that you are the only one who has him! I'm not too bothered about the grey highlights, I guess its just a matter of personal taste.

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

Obi Hair Correction

Obi's hair is simply "too dark" and it has beard issues as well. (Obi's flesh tones, eyes, etc look superb although the eyebrows look a bit heavy but that is a minor correction IMO)

To me the hair/beard paint apps is not film-accurate or SDCC display accurate so I'm having DarkArtist repaint these areas to match as closely as possible the SDCC display Obi and he's doing it for a nominal fee...he has offered to do this for $5! plus shipping. (I'm paying him $10 to do mine)

So I encourage anyone who is not overly thrilled with their Obi hair/beard paint apps and want it corrected to look as great as he should to wait and see the results of DA's work in the inevitable 'Obi Repaint thread" and decide for yourselves but I applaud him for making this economical option available to us.

Ditto, like I always do, I wait till I have it in hand before I pass judgement. I was the most worried about Han, but after the usual hours of fun and futzing he is now one of my favorites.

I can't want till next thursday Obi has always been my favorite, and I can't wait for an Old Ben. He's my favorite crazy old wizard. :)

One thing I keep reading is that he doesn't look like the SDCC proto. He does look like the TF one but that seems to be forgotten.

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

I'm definitely pleased with the fiirst in-hand shots we have... but I might be less bothered by these issues since I like my Anakin figure as well.

Also, if you shrink a giant picture down to the aproximate size of a figure it doesn't look as strange:
