From left to right, Real, SDCC, TF, Production.

The two proto's and the production have different lighting. The hair in the SDCC does appear lighter, but the light source is from overhead. The hair on the TF, and Prod look about the same, and in all honesty the grey in the Prod is more prononced then in either the SDCC or TF but it really isn't that big a deal, if you want to tone it down abit, cool, and if not then I think thats fine too. But looking at the TF and Prod I really don't see that much difference.

btw, I scaled the pictures down to about actual size. I for one don't stair at these with my nose 1" from the face of these. Casual viewing tends to be from 1 to 3 feet, and more commonly 5 feet from the figure.

Well I still can't wait to get Obi on thursday, I've wanted him the most of all of the figures so far released. :)

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

nice comparison pic. the eyebrows on the production are huge!

Yeah, they are abit big, but it's not the end of the world, and they don't look as big as SDCC vader's.

Well it's nearing happy hour so time to go. :drink

:lol Appears to be lighter? Dude, everyone who saw him at SDCC was blown away, not just by the flesh tone details of his face but the film-accurate lightened paint apps of his hair, eyebrows and beard texturing. This is why EVERYONE was asking Brant if this was the prod paints apps, because many of us thought they had IMPROVED it...

This is what we got, with blaring light source from overhead and is about as light as it could appear.

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

andy b's godlike hair sculpting......
wow.
its a shame that the factory paint ruined some detail around the beard and the eyebrows, but it might just be the flushed out pics.
all the details is still there :D
awesome looking figure.
def gonna get one...

Forget the painter! They should use GG's sculptor! That is definitely McGregor. The only thing that doesn't seem to show in the pic is the mole on his forehead.

Eric
you mean, they use life-scans and stuff like that, I've heard.

and that other obi-wan head you showed actually isn't bad at all.
and I'm betting the likeness is better seen in person ;D

that's easy. Takara Batman or Catwoman.

that's just about right. just got the Tak Bats and he is the BEST mass fig i've ever seen. he is a tiiiiiny bit too thin, but i think the HT is too thick. anyway.

i like Obi and dry brushing the hair/beard is easy as hell. shouldn't take 15 minutes. thinning the eyebrows will be tougher tho. i'm just really glad the loopy eyes were fixed.

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

oh and can someone post a link to the SDCC pics of Obi that everyone is talking about? i've not seen them other than the small pics in this thread

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

so can our forum customizers get obi close to looking like the one at SDCC?? (skin tone, hair and eyebrow color)

Eric

Nope, I'm not.

Play stands as called on the field.

obi_big3.jpg

on Andy B's site (is that painted or photoshopped lol)

Obviously, a little repaint is all that is needed fellas :D
I think the factory paint stole away too much detail

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

:monkey2 why'd i ask?! now i wish i'd never seen them. still, shouldn't be too hard to dry brush. i'm more leary about the eyebrows since the paint'll have to match the skin tone exactly. thanks for the pics Nash.

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

try stripping some of the paint with some acetone but sometimes the acetone might take away some detail (dissolves the plastic)

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

yeah, i've heard acetone will disolve some resins/plastics. they make a non acetone nail polish remover that i heard works good for taking paint off but not harming the plastic. i just don't wanna have to strip the flesh tone.

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

I truly wish SS would offer us unpainted head sculpts that we could purchase to paint ourselves or have painted. I love the SDCC and Andy's paint apps. Both are a little different but awesome. The detail is amazing. Either the factory uses too much paint sometimes or the process of thousands off the mold cause the detail to be a little more vague.
