Re: 1/6 Hot Toys – MMS - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: Yondu Collectible Figure

Interestingly enough one seller I asked for a price said there were not many pre-orders for this guy. So expect him to dry up pretty quick.

Re: 1/6 Hot Toys – MMS - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: Yondu Collectible Figure

Not many orders in general or not many figures available to order?

This is a character that I would expect HT to make a smaller edition size of, despite the two variants. But maybe they made more because they are proud of the way he came out.

The way I understand it (and was told from a retailer) they always make to pre-order. HT doesn't decide OK lets make 5000 of this guy and see how it goes. That puts all the risk of potential excess stock on them.

I guess if HT doesn't have capacity or it's a difficult figure they can minimise the run by pulling the pre-order date early. But the more orders the better for them normally.

Retailers can also pre-order more themselves at their own risk. But I guess for Yondu he's not that well known, so the sellers didn't want to end up with product on their hands. ala TFA.

Re: 1/6 Hot Toys – MMS - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: Yondu Collectible Figure

OK, so based on preorders, of which there were not too many, then HT won't make too many.... hence him drying up fast. Got it.

Either way, I didn't expect too many of him to be made.

Certainly HT makes more than preordered though. Otherwise, there would never be any left for ebay sales for months and months afterwards -- that supply isn't generated from cancelations and declines alone. I'm pretty certain HT has a minimum to make or the figure quite simply isn't worth making.

OK but who is running the eBay sales. Not Hot Toys ? Generally I'd guess it's sellers hoping to sell at inflated prices for stragglers or people who missed the pre-order. Sometimes that works out. Sometimes it doesn't. But sure you could be right that they have a minimum amount to break even. I guess that depends figure to figure though. But that would also govern the minimum time they keep the pre-order open.

Re: 1/6 Hot Toys – MMS - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: Yondu Collectible Figure

Well, many times Sideshow keeps preorders open right up to or just before delivery of the figure. How is that possible? HT isn't making figures right up to delivery, are they? So there must have been an anticipation of buyers based on early preorder numbers. HT has been at this long enough that they likely have a formula of how many preorders in the first three weeks gives them an estimate of about how many they will ultimately need to make. Many people don't preorder at $200+ a figure with NRDs. They wait and see. So HT must account for them too.

Absolutely it depends on the figure/character. One like Yondu is going to have less of a fan base at $200 than say Jedi Luke, so of course far fewer made. Far fewer Mk Vs than there is Mk VIs. Clearly they didn't figure this out when TFA came around -- because there's still a lot of figures available. Certainly those numbers was made on guessimate sales, not based on preorders.

I’d guess Sideshow places a huge preorder allotment with Hot Toys for their own stock, which dictates their pre order allotment on their own site for their customers. Sideshow probably over orders as well so they can have stock past the pre order date to hopefully get post release sales over BBTS, Alterego, etc. But in some cases they run out of preorders before they even get the figures in stock.

I'd say they are producing pretty much right up to the delivery date. But yes SS may also have a percentage over the pre-order volume though for replacement spares, people that wait etc.

But from a production view maybe it's a bit of a mix of several things at the end of the timeline. i.e say for a figure they have 6820 preorders so they decide to make 7000 to finish up the last raw materials ordered or whatever.

That TFA debacle was probably also due to greed on all sides. HT, distributors etc all thinking this first Star Wars would mean selling a ton of figures.

I'd love to see a Hot Toys behind the scenes documentary. I have seen some of the toy industry in Hong Kong, but not much on Hot Toys. I guess they want to keep their edge over the competition.

Likely very true.

These figures are produced at the factory some time before they are revealed in the "released in HK" pictures I would imagine, then 4-6 weeks later it arrives at Sideshow, who may still have POs open at that time.

I would too.

Both are on waitlist now. Glad I ordered this morning.

Re: 1/6 Hot Toys – MMS - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: Yondu Collectible Figure

No kidding. I would have been pissed if I missed it.

Tell me about it ! I almost missed my order due to a mixup with my seller. I would have been more than pissed !!

Was quite a stressful morning :lol

Re: 1/6 Hot Toys – MMS - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: Yondu Collectible Figure

I ordered the regular at BBTS when this first came out... but now I kind of wish I paid the extra to get it first from Sideshow. After having to wait like 3 months longer for Jack Sparrow to arrive at BBTS, I hope they don't repeat that fiasco with Yondu.

Re: 1/6 Hot Toys – MMS - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: Yondu Collectible Figure

Yeah that would suck. I did ask my seller when Yondu would ship (normal batch). He said roughly a month from now. Which is pretty normal, so I hope there is no mini war or whatever between BBTS and SS which means getting yours late.

He did have one of the first batch Secret Base figures available now for $450 ! I said no thanks. :lol

The prices these things are going for from the Hong Kong sellers are getting ridiculous, as well.
Used to be you could get the new releases for $30 or so more than Sideshow plus shipping cost to the US...
Now they want $150 more than Sideshow plus shipping on a new release.

Better off waiting and paying the normal price. I for one cannot afford to pay the cost of two figures
Each time just to get each new release early. It's crazy.

Re: 1/6 Hot Toys – MMS - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: Yondu Collectible Figure

Has anyone here ordered from CMDStore before? They have both Yondus up for pre-order.

Re: 1/6 Hot Toys – MMS - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: Yondu Collectible Figure

I really don’t want to order this but it came out so well. I knew buying Star-Lord was a bad idea. Makes all the other Guardians figures so tempting.
