Yeah I’m pretty tempted to get this, but I’m not sure what I would do with my S-Hero Doom that I spent a good chunk of time (gladly) modifying his height and arm length.

I wonder if the S hero head will fit on the Hot Toys Doom, I prefer it. But the S hero head is connected by a magnet, so that could complicate things.
The magnet for the head comes out pretty easily, and a regular socket adapter fits.

I'm confused -- what is this? Just a pretend Doom? Made "real" from the comics? And... why?

This is a good point.

Looking through comics and scrolling through hundreds of images the element that's most common to Doom's costume is his simple, plain green tunic (as on the S-Hero figure, or the Sideshow maquette that inspired Hot Toys' backdrop).

Yet Hot Toys have made it much more elaborate with stitching, panels and layers:

Occasionally a more elaborate design pops up, but it appears to be from cartoons, video games, card games, fan art or cosplay.

One of the possible inspirations is from the Marvel Ultimate Alliance videogame, with its panels and split skirt design:

A Hono release might've been the preferable option, and Hot Toys may actually do a Hono later with a simpler, more 'classic' appearance. 'Classic' in that he's worn the plain and simple tunic for most of his appearances over the last 62 years.

Nice catch i notice it has similar design too.

Doctor Doom is one of a small number of Marvel characters that have stuck with me ever since they captured my imagination at a young age. The others are Ghost Rider, Thing and Hulk

In some ways it's more about the visual appearance and the idea of the characters rather than their actual stories.

With Doom it's the look of a knight combined with the powers of a sorcerer and scientific genius, and that he lived in a castle overlooking a city that didn't look changed from medieval or Renaissance times.

After later becoming captivated by the videogame, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, and the pulp serials of the 1930s and 1940s, they merged in my mind with the idea of Doctor Doom.

He's a character I want to push back into the '40s, into that era of masked masterminds, but more specifically into WWII itself, as with Red Skull, though as a natural enemy to the Nazis while not being an actual friend to the Allies.

Doom is my favorite villain because so much of his character is incongruous. He’s a walking mishmash of genres and aesthetics that somehow all work, that could only work in fiction. He’s like Batman: TAS Gotham blending futurism with black & white TVs, Tommy Guns, and police blimps.

He’s the hero in his own mind. He’s a sovereign ruler that prefers the title “Doctor” over “king” or “emperor”. He’s a scientist that mastered the mystic arts. His armor looks medieval yet is powered by the most advanced science on earth. He’s an egotistical, ruthless tyrant who loves his country, respects his foes, and watches Star Trek. He’ll hate Reed to his dying day yet also demand he be his best man at his wedding. He’ll curse the Fantastic Four yet loves their children as their godfather. He’ll threaten to wipe out whole civilizations yet honors his debts. He was given and born with no powers; everything he is is self-made and earned. He’s vain, self-centered, cruel and remorseless. He’s also saved all of existence more than once. In the 2099 future he’s revered as a legendary hero and the hope of his kingdom.

He’s a walking contradiction. A paradox of utmost villainy meshed with uncompromising ideals. He’s fascinating.

Top of the hood popping up little bit too high ahaha, i personally dislike wire cape, sure it good for photos shoots and pose but i prefer none wires to let the hood rest on head naturally.

Hey guys, looking to hear your opinions on this.

I have a modified (height, slight adjustments to arm and neck length) S Hero Doom that I am now happy with.

That said, I think this new HT Doom looks really cool, and overall I think it is superior in most respects to the S Herp version.

However, as a one figure per character collector I’m concerned about a couple things:

1) Is there going to a Hot Toys MCU Doom announced next year that blows this one away?

2) In a couple of years is Hot Toys likely to announce a die-cast version of this figure.

Are any of you guys concerned at all about the issues above, or am I being ridiculous?

Any of you think the S Hero version is better?

Thanks in advance

They will definitely make an RDJ Doom. But we don't know what it will look like yet so impossible to say if it will be an improvement.

I don't forsee a diecast version but there is a possibility for a more comic accurate hono version down the road.
