Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

I'm guessing that petered out because the first Marty sold so slowly and is still available. I'm pretty sure Ripley and really anything from Alien or Aliens won't have that same problem.

They could have also banked too heavily on the nostalgia for BTTF and produced way too many Martys for the second run to be viable any time soon.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

That's also very likely. I think that film is mostly popular in North America and the UK, while Alien films seem to have more of a global presence. Not to mention, collectors have been wanting a Ripley 2.0 for what feels like forever, since most don't even count the first one.

Here's a new and better look at the Alien figure. Price is included as well.

Comes out to roughly $280 USD but that's conversion from yen. Will upload the Ripley one when it pops up.

Rubber body..

rip

You guys still think this alien will be sold by SS as well? I would cry if it's only Japan retail...
...and as a side note. Why are people so surprised Ripley came out eventually? We know how difficult Weavers likeness rights are and we actually have quite few examples of HT figures that didn't come out unless it was a new movie that flopped completely...
...and Marty2 will probably come out when the first one is sold out and the demand is back. ...and they figure out how to do the hat.

Damn that looks awesome. :yess:

I do think this will be available from SS and BBTS and most every other retailer out there. They won't pass up a huge opportunity to cash in, i'm still surprised it took them this long, but I guess they were waiting for the anniversary of Aliens and whatnot.

I think most just like to have a "I'll believe it when I see it" approach with Hot Toys, since they have shown and teased a few figures over the years that never became a reality. :dunno

Also, looking at that pic again, I remember some complaining about the legs being short but I think they're just bent slightly, giving it that illusion. They probably had them bent to take the pic and the photographer didn't really think about how it would affect how the proportions appeared.

Hehe the short legs are probably more movie accurate. Guys in suits... Some fat as Weaver once put it. And people seem to like movie accurate when it comes to Aliens.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

The Warrior looks really great there. Certainly better than the older Alien Warrior we had before ages ago. Like the headsculpt too. I may have to get this....

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

To me, though I don't read Japanese, it could seem like it's the green splashes that are exclusive and limited to 300. Could anyone translate please?

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

I wonder if, now that Carrie Henn has given her approval to use her likeness for a NECA figure (and Jennette Goldstein (Vasquez) for that matter), there is a greater chance we will see more from the Aliens from Hot Toys line - especially with NECA Hicks and Hudson figures too.
I don't think we'll see a single Newt HT figure. But maybe an Aliens Ripley / Newt 2-pack now has a greater chance?
Obviously negotiations between manufacturers, what scales they can create the figure in, sculpt approvals need to be factored in, but hopefully it will go in the right direction.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Btw, what are the chances of a new Big Chap? Didnt Hot Toys show a new one on their catalog? Since we're getting Alien Ripley and Aliens Alien makes any sense for em release a Big Chap with Power Loader Ripley?

Yeah, that's my guess, it'll be released when they announce the Aliens Ripley and Powerloader.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

From the website : Toy Sapiens can currently only ship within Japan, we do not offer any foreign shipping option.

Hmmm, so what we gonna do if Ripley is offered for sale on the Toy Sapiens website?
It would be like you can see it but can't just reach it!

Any idea's?
:dunno

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

She will be carried through Sideshow. Perhaps at a later date, but it won't be a store exclusive.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

I'm happy with my original Big Chap, inaccuracies and all. It's been on display for years now and I've had no problems with deteriorating rubber.

Same here. I've enjoyed this figure, inaccuracies and all, for quite a number of years. (along with Kane and Dallas.) Heck, I still remember Blade3327's YouTube review! :wink1:

I'm not going to get greedy. Just give me an "Alien" and "Aliens" version of Ripley and I'll be fine. (until a Hicks, Hudson, Bishop and Newt are announced...) :monkey3

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Yeah, gimme a couple of Ripleys and at least one alien and I'll be a happy boy.

I'll be a happier boy if you give me more, though!

(I still think they will try making a Queen one of these days. Yes, it's probably an engineering nightmare, but they've certainly made bigger stuff.)

Like I said earlier, Toy Sapiens doesn't have an online shop, like Secret Base in Hong Kong. People place their orders in person and then they pick up the figures in person when they're released.

However, Secret Base sends a batch or two of figures to Sideshow, the western distributor for Hot Toys. They then ship them out to other smaller retailers (like BBTS and Alter Ego, etc) and that is how the market for Hot Toys is satisfied in the west.

It's the same thing as what happened with Marty McFly. The exclusive edition (with the guitar) was first offered at a convention called AniCom, and then it was put up for PO through Sideshow about a week later.

So what Toy Sapiens does on April 26 doesn't actually matter at all to most of us - what does matter is whether (and they probably will) Secret Base send Sideshow a batch.

But... It will be a PREORDER (few months to wait for...) or you are saying that Ripley will be available on april? Thanks.
