Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

I'm rather impressed they took a group of disenchanted fans and found a way to bring them even lower...

I don't think its that bad, but I do agree the previous versions were better.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Marvel needed some time in the spotlight in fairness. I mean there hadn't been a new Black Widow figure for about 2 months at this stage. About damn time I say.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Yeah I hope PO soon- and yeah what happened to HT's hard-on for Star Wars?- from like one announcememt every two weeks to nothing for months...???

Civil War and Iron Man bro.

But don't worry, I'm sure we're going to see a plethora of new Hot Toys Star Wars products like a dozen Rogue One Stormtrooper variants.

:rotfl

same 'ol marvel crap:gah:

It's funny. If you look at this time last year, they were pumping out the same Iron Man, Captain America, and Black Widow crap almost to the day. It's just the same rehashed **** every year. Age of Ultron isn't even a year old yet and it already feels like it came out years ago. Do collectors even care about all those Ultron variations, the Iron sentries and all that AOU stuff anymore?

With that said, we're about do for another Thor anyday now, right?

Looks a little like Giovanni Ribisi in a wig. Fantastic.

He isn't in CW but wait maybe a CW-inspired Toy Fairs release!
:lol
Yeah feels like TWO years since AoU- yet alot of you guys eat it up - the more BWs and IMs the better!

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

IT MUST BE THE SAME HEAD SCULPT!!! Look at the images below :

1st = New Production Ripley
2nd = 1st Prototype
3rd = Superimposed, one on top of he other.

It matches absolutely perfectly, it's amazing what light angles can do!
Nothing has been stretched, both images have been kept to 1:1 ratio.
what do you think?

It totally DOES though. Even more so than the Kristen Stewart comparison some folks have made. She has the same sad, droopy eyes he does.

Hmm... lighting certainly can play a big role. The photos from today are all terribly lit, whereas that second headsculpt was lit in surprisingly professional conditions for being at a convention. I'm willing to eat crow if the official announcement images seal the deal. After all, everybody wins then.

Not to mention that philtrum of his.

To be honest, I didn't think the rooted sculpt likeness was all that great. But at least the presentation was decent. It could be lighting or bad pics but this seems like a half-assed job, like with Police Shootout T1, Matrix and Keaton Wayne.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

One image says it all.
Rooted hair is the path to the future of 1/6. People ehmmm... still rooting for sculpted hair are just trying to lie to themselves out of genetic conservatism.

The first head already had problems: hair not properly styled (even if texture was OK), shape of head completely wrong (too wide, made more acute by skinny neck). But new, apparently definitive headsculpt is a piece of crap (likeness missed by far, sculpted hair after all the wait, still huge head), and why sesoned collectors like those posting on this thread would like that piece of crap, is well beyond me.

No wonder HT might have screwed it big time (even if PL looks awesome, and together with improved outfit over older version justify expenditure): what can be expected from a company that does not listen to what their very customers have to say in forums like these? Huge amounts of credit should be given to Asmus: sometimes you get the feeling YOU are directing Asmus' developments!!

1/6 companies permanently roaming these corridors are also a path to the future of 1/6. Those not complying will go extinct...

Our duty is to harshly criticize, especially in the face of ever soaring prices. Otherwise, light negative feedback will be understood as almost-positive feedback. Harsh feedback would include not buying, where and when due.

Rant finale: why sculpters at HT take so much care of minutiae, and at the same time don't give a damn about head and face shape??? It is like recording audio betwwn 3400Hz and 999999999999Hz!! First harmonics are the ones carrying the most data, damn it...!!

m.

PS: damn, is the outfit even accurate??? Or do they have portrayed Ripley with some other ourfit from some particular scene from the first movie?

EDIT: "complaying"? sounds nice though...

I was thinking James Mcavoy. They finally got to use the First Class sculpt of him on something.

That's a joke everybody. I actually really like the new sculpt. Looks like a Ripley from 1979 where the previous sculpts look just like 1985 Ripley. 6 years on a young face changes a lot of features.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Is the plastic hair with new head sculpt the latest version? If so, I can't be fxxx to buy that cheap crap, ain't paying few hundreds for that kind of BS

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

relax. they both look terrible and nowhere near Weaver.

What about my comment suggests I'm not relaxed, I'm just tired of reading all of the ridiculous comments, one after another, yours included. People are so spoiled and feel entitled that their little toys should look exactly like the real person or they throw a tantrum or make outlandish claims like it looks like this person or that or whatever person they can come up with that they think might get them a giggle from someone, it's pathetic and old. It happens every time there's a new figure, and then GOOD photos are released and those same people are preordering right away. I just typed all of that while remaining calm and relaxed btw. Carry on with your bashing kids.

Fair enough. :duff

I don't care who's right and who's wrong, so long as we get a kickass Ripley figure.

They're the latest pics, aren't they?
