Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

really? i actually hated fury road. Just another example of overused big budget special effects overshadowing the storyline. Road warrior 1981 now thats a mad max film..

If anything, this film is just the opposite. They used nearly all practical effects and real stunt people. Look it up, it's truly amazing what they accomplished.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Mad Max Fury Road was also pretty much an instant classic. IMO one of the best scifi/action films ever made.

Agreed with this being a great film, but I don't think of it as sci-fi really. Dystopian future? Yes. But they aren't using science or technology in a way that doesn't exist today.

And while the CG comment may be a bit off-base (it was masterfully used to enhance the film, but was not a crutch as Bruiser points out), it was a movie more about visceral action, and ratcheting up tension than storyline. If you can't get behind a movie that uses that approach, and would rather enjoy relatively quiet, indie dramas like the Skeleton Twins or Win Win, I can understand it. But Miller put on a master class of how to accomplish such a thing. I think it's one of the best movies made in the last 20 years or so. Up there with Fargo and There Will Be Blood.

Bad sign if we are going to start talking about "off topics".:lol

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Well that happens in almost every thread. Not sure that it signifies much of anything apart from a lack of anything concrete to discuss.

Fury Road is outstanding. I loved watching the extras that showed how little CGI was used. Surprised the hell out of me. And they did it so well that both Miller and Hardy have signed on for the next installment already.

I hadn't heard that. Good news.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

I heard Miller does not want to do another one. So hopefully my news is wrong!

When it was released in theaters, my wife, my 15 year old daughter, and myself, all went and saw it twice in 3D. :D

Last weekend my daughter wanted to watch a movie, so I told her pick out whatever she wants (I have roughly 700 blu-rays, so it takes a while sometimes :p) and she scans the shelves for about ten seconds and says "what about Mad Max?" I chuckle as I'm fighting back the tears, and say "which one, there's 4 of them" she says "Fury Road, do we have it in 3D?" and I say "of course we do.....could you be any more like me?" :hi5:

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

So let me get this straight.

There is a big promo talking about all the items that will be available for "Alien Day"; one of which being the previously shown Hot Toys' Ripley from Alien. All the items previewed were put up for sale/pre-order except for Hot Toys' and they offered no comment or anything regarding it other than to just show the figure again? Has Hot Toys become so big that they just blow off promotional events with a large amount of companies participating?

By showing the most high-end figure being produced they could have totally had some major free advertising to people outside of this board and won Alien Day.

Am I missing something here?

I've read interviews with him where he was very open to a sequel or sequels. But he has to do it on his terms, with a story that feels right, and the right people involved. He's not looking for a cash-grab (not that a sequel to Fury Road would really be that, anyway).

No you are not. Think we are all kind of confused here... But apparently the Marvel stuff sell so well that they don't need to care. But still you are right. Very very bad business model. It's not like they are selling toilet paper that everybody use...

You gotta love it when your daughter likes the same things you do! Mine is only 3 but she has good taste in cartoons and movies already. Asks to watch Back to the Future and Star Wars all the time. Can't wait till she's older and we can watch more mature movies.

Nope, that about sums it up. That press release clearly states they will be announcing a Ripley figure -

Hot Toys will announce an all-new Alien Ripley 1/6th figure

They clearly didn't announce ANYTHING. It was a huge kick in the nuts.

With that said, I actually like those Cosbaby's.....just might pick them up lol.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Just goes to show HT Japan is virtually a different company to HT HK. They put out catalogs with figures that may or may not be released (another example was Lone Ranger).
